Knowledge is Power in the Mortgage Broking Industry

Submitted by loanbrokeracademy
Wed, 2 May 2007

As an educator in the mortgage industry for the past five years, I have always stressed the importance of education for mortgage brokers. Though many states now require continuing education for loan officers, the same does not apply to mortgage brokers, however, I believe it should be considered a prerequisite for success in the industry.
Mortgage brokers form the backbone of the mortgage industry with around 63% all loans being broker originated. I believe, therefore that it should be our goal to make it as easy as possible for brokers to sell the right loans to the right borrowers.
I understand what a broker has to deal with on a daily basis, and know that nothing could be more important than a complete understanding of the loan process. It is also equally important that mortgage brokers educate their borrowers, ideally even before they get them sign up for a loan. Mortgage professionals must make sure that they explain the terms of the transaction clearly and ensure that borrowers fully understand their financial obligations. As brokers take the time to go through the process of explaining the transaction they will build trust and strengthen the broker- borrower relationship. Borrowers will then feel comfortable referring friends and family members to you. You will thus build long-lasting and in many cases lifelong relationships with your borrowers.
In the final analysis it all boils down to quality. We focus on providing mortgage professionals the right tools and services they need to be successful. You in turn need to always focus on making good loans and making sure you’re getting the borrower into the loan which is the right one for them. We have to build our business on service.

We have to therefore ensure that we provide quality service in whatever we do as mortgage brokers. As long as we continue to offer our borrowers enough choices, flexibility and service with quality we will continue to prosper.
If you properly build up your brokering business focusing on quality service, you will probably never need to market your services two years after start up - your business will continue to grow on referrals alone.
