Choosing to file for bankruptcy is never easy and it can cause a great deal of stress in your life. Bankruptcy should be the very last resort in a desperate situation and when the decision has been made to utilize bankruptcy the emotional toll will stay with you for some time. The best thing you can do initially is allow yourself some time to be depressed and get all of the negative emotions out of you. You are not going to be able to help yourself or your family if you remain in a depressed state for an extended period of time. You may want to seek counseling to help you get through this very rough period as that may be just what you need to properly deal with the severe negative emotions of bankruptcy.

After the clouds of bankruptcy have started to clear a little you come to realize that life does need to go on and it is time to start putting your post bankruptcy life together and get on with your daily business. As long as you have a roof over your head and a job to go to then you can get through it. Take about six months and re-arrange your life so that you only use cash to purchase anything. If you cannot afford to purchase something in cash then you do not need it. Get your household expenses down to a point where your incoming cash can easily handle your debt and if that is a struggle then take on extra part-time employment to help get your monthly bills under control.

You will find that after a few months of living a regimented life you are able to keep things under control. You will also notice that credit card offers may start appearing in your mailbox again. When you feel you are ready you should take on one secured credit card with a very low limit and be certain that it is something you can afford to pay off in full each month. Use the card and begin to re-establish your credit. It will take time but as long as you learned the lessons you needed to learn from your bankruptcy and apply those lessons to your future finances then you will recover from this crisis.
