Boise, Idaho – High Tech Center Close to Nature

Submitted by eastbiz

Boise, Idaho is also known as the “City of Trees” for the extensive amount of trees in the area of the Boise River. The city has a population of over 200,000 and a metropolitan area population of over 600,000, and is the capital of Idaho. Boise is at an elevation of 2700 feet and is located in the Treasure Valley. The city is 64 square miles, leaving room for open areas in the city itself. Boise is a city not far from the countryside, and this can entail all sorts of advantages for Boise homes and real estate. Where else can you work for a hi-tech company and be minutes away from golf courses, skiing, nature trails and mountain climbing. Bogus Basin Mountain Resort has skiing and is located only 16 miles outside Boise. To make a point just how good these winter sports facilities are, Boise and the surrounding area are hosting the 2009 Winter Olympics.

Northwest Boise still has a lot of charm and is not very expensive. The North End is known for its larger artistic community. Warm Springs has beautiful Victorian homes built by wealthy and successful miners and businessmen about 100 years. And yes, there are actually hot springs in the area. Options for Boise Real Estate and Homes are quite varied. There are a number of different neighborhoods and also 11 trailer parks for Manufactured Homes. These homes can be had in some cases for less than $50,000 and can give a family a closer in-touch feeling with nature than living in an apartment. And it’s easier to look out the window and check that the kids are happily playing. One nice trailer park is called Clover Leaf, which is South of the river, on the near East Side, only a short drive on Rte. 20 into downtown.

Boise is the headquarters of Idaho Power, Micron Technology, Washington Group International, and WinCo Foods. Hewlett-Packard has a large complex involved in making scanners and printers. Other high-tech employers include Micron, Microsoft, ClickBank, and PayTrack.

The Morrison-Knudsen Nature Center offers wildlife exhibits, adjacent to Municipal Park. Golf courses in the Boise area include the Boise Ranch Golf course in Boise itself, and the Banbury Golf Course in nearby Eagle, Idaho. Southwest Boise contains sparsely populated neighborhoods. Many of these sport larger acre sized plots and even pastures. The Boise State University campus is home to Velma V. Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, which has fine arts performances and Bronco Stadium a 30,000 seat football stadium where the school teams play. The World Center for Birds of Prey is located just outside city limits, and is a key part of the re-establishment of the Peregrine falcon and is also breeding other endangered species.
BODO (Boise Downtown) is a new development being constructed to revitalize the downtown with new residential and business buildings, and a more central shopping area. Already restaurants, boutiques and other retail stores are giving the area a nice gentrified feeling. Transportation in the area is provided by Valley Ride and the Boise Urban Stages (BUS), while commercial flights fly to Boise Airport, which has recently been expanded.
