Four Fun Things your can do with your Kids in Austin

Submitted by Joe Cline

Austin is a good place to visit if you're looking for some good clean fun with the family. Those who have kids are sure to keep them entertained with Austin's endless line up of events all-year-round. The region also has the best zoos, museums and other facilities which are bound to keep your little ones from getting bored.

Music Festivals

Are you traveling with teens? No problem. Austin's music festivals are bound to keep them from sulking in the corner because they have nothing to do. Bring them every fall to the Austin City Limits Music Festival. There are more than 100 bands performing in this annual festival and you can be sure that every music genre is covered. There are also activities lined up which your kids would find interesting like the music worship, the drum circles, the dancing events, and of course, the play area, music inspired, of course. Around May, Austin also plays host to the Pachanga Latino Festival. There are over 20 bands performing during this annual festival. Your younger kids are also bound to have the time of their lives at the Ninos Rock Pachanga, a workshop which lets kids learn more about the culture and are behind the music genre. There are also face painting and other arts and crafts activities. If your child is younger than 12 years old, you can bring them in for free.

Museums

Just frequent Austin Downtown and you'll get to see its unique museums. The Children's Museum is a constant highlight. You can also let your child join the Tinkerers Workshop which is ideal for children between five to 11 years old. This workshop teaches kids to create artistic structures. The Rising Star Ranch, on the other hand, is perfect for children who are two years old or younger. This is a play area which would let even your small baby enjoy the best of Austin. Sleepovers are also scheduled. Is your son a dinosaur fan? Don't forget to take him to the University of Texas Natural Science Center. The dinosaur models are pretty realistic, and it's a fun way of getting your child to like archeology.

Stage productions

Austin won't be Austin without the live performances, and you should let your child enjoy the region's interactive events. The Austin Children's Theater holds workshops that let children learn all about stage productions and acting. Those who have signed up for the program also get to perform in public. Expect your child to be able to perform in Broadway shows and adaptations like Alice in Wonderland.

Amusement parks and zoos

You can visit Austin any time of the year if you're dropping by for the amusement parks and the zoos. These are permanent fixtures and are always going to be around to entertain your kids. The Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary is notable. Get to see over a hundred species of animals here. There is also a petting zoo in the area which has goats, llamas, and deer. Among the amusement parks in Austin, the most popular is the Kiddie Acres Amusement Park and Miniature Golf.
