How to Cancel your Payment Protection Insurance Policy without the Extra Fees

Do you feel that your payment protection insurance has been mis-sold to you? Do you feel that there were some exclusions within the policy that were not clarified? Are you thinking of canceling your PPI policy without necessarily incurring additional costs? If yes, let\'s take some time to examine a few ways to do just that.

Let the canceling begin

Now that you think it\'s time you cancel that old policy, you must learn how to cancel it properly before going for a different type of insurance. After all, who wouldn\'t want to get better protection without paying for more?

Don\'t fret for it\'s fairly easy to cancel your old PPI policy. Remember, you have a legal right to stop a policy within 14 or 30 days of the starting date, depending on the terms agreed upon. However, note that you can still cancel the policy long after this specific period of time.

In case you have a monthly PPI, you can stop the said policy immediately without paying for additional costs. But do remember to cancel your direct debt if you have one.

On the other hand, it\'s possible that you\'re holding a single premium policy if you\'ve taken out PPI policy alongside a loan or finance agreement. Hence, you\'ve probably paid for your insurance covering the entire term up front. This also means that you can cancel the policy before the end of the term. Just make sure that your lender gives you a fairly calculated refund,

Rake them for refunds

In the event that your lender or finance firm was unable to give you a fair amount for the refund, inquire about the way they calculated the said figure. However, remember that you cannot just divide the premium by the number of years the PPI is good for. That\'s because your insurance costs more at the start of the term since the said period has a longer amount of time in which a claim can be made. To explain this more clearly, examine the first year of a five-year policy. Note that there are five years in which a claim can be made, but during the fourth year, there\'s only a year left for you to make a claim. Since the risk decreases as the term progresses, the premiums are considerably lesser. Also, don\'t forget to ask the finance firm to tell you the allocations of the premiums per year. In the event that your lender refuses to give you a refund, fear not, for you can simply file a formal complaint.

Now that you\'ve successfully canceled your PPI policy, you can now look for better alternatives. See if you can take advantage of covers that you already have before buying another type of insurance. You can also look into state benefits. In case your situation calls for something more, simply sift through the many quotes available. And do try to get the best possible deal. You\'re bound to end up with something better sooner or later.

If you\'re having second thoughts about pursuing your payment protection insurance, then you ought to cancel your single premium or monthly policy. And as long as you understand things properly, you\'d have no trouble canceling it.
