Increasing Natural Light and Openness

Submitted by RLeForce

If you have considered renovating your home to improve it's value or selling power there are a few rooms that you should definitely consider. Certain rooms, when redone can be huge selling points for homes. Of course I am referring to the two most commonly used rooms in the home, the Kitchen and the Bathroom. However these rooms are not the only things to consider when thinking about redoing a room or two. One area that is overlooked quite a bit is the entrance room or hallway. This is the first thing that people see when entering a home so why not make it as attractive as possible?

One problem that many homes have with their entranceway is the fact that they are small and crowded. If there is a traffic jam every time people enter your home, it might be time to consider enlarging this area. Most of the time this will involve moving a wall so think about this carefully. Are you ready to move walls to achieve your goal? If not you may want to concentrate on the other rooms. If so then try to plan every aspect of the renovation to the last detail and be prepared for any contingency. Another thing that can create the feeling of openness with an entranceway is a new door with a glass panel. This allows natural light into the home and creates the illusion of a larger space. Also if you are so inclined, a cutout above the door will further the feeling of openness and make the area brighter. This is also a great area to express your creativity with a stained glass area or specialty window.

There are numerous areas in the home that can easily express your creative side or add to the artistic value of your home. Natural light is one of the best ways to increase the visible space in your home. For smaller homes this is of great value in making sure the home does not feel cramped. Also, windows can add significant value to homes and help in saving money on heating costs. Take some time and think about what you are trying to create with your home. A good amount of natural light will make your home a more inviting place for buyers.
