Key questions to help relocate to Spain

Submitted by Clinton

You’re interested in buying a property in a warmer climate. You’ve seen there’s plenty of reasonably priced Spanish houses and villas. But before you begin to look at international property for sale in Spain consider these questions to help you make the big move:

- What will I gain from moving abroad? A big but critical question which you need to meet with a considered response
- Should I live in Spain permanently or will I go for a few months at a time?
- Will I go back to the UK to see family, friends or access medical services? You need to check:

- if you can do this easily and
- how much will it cost you each time you return?

- Can you afford to retire overseas? You need to make a calculation of your annual income looking at both short and long-term outlooks.

If applicable, you need to check if you can claim benefits that you currently get in the UK.
- What is the cost of living in Spain including property costs? How would changes in the pound’s exchange rate impact on your daily expenses?
- If you are planning to move with a partner, are they happy to make the move?

How would either of you cope if one of you became critically ill or died? Drastic questions but you need to face up to these and think about the emotional and financial consequences of either.
- What is like living in Spain? You may have been there for a few holidays but this is different to living there.

It is good if you can try living there for 2 or 3 months before you decide to make the big move.

There’s a lot to consider before you make a move to a country like Spain. That said, this country does offer some fascinating places to live and a great range of apartments, villas and off plan and golf properties for sale.
