Property Renovations in Palma, Mallorca

Submitted by Osborne
Sat, 13 Oct 2007

Perhaps it should come as no surprise that properties in Palma are in high demand. Palma is the capital of Majorca and sits on its southern coast. It is a cultural center, holiday resort, and commercial port. Palma is home to the famous Gothic Cathedral as well.

Though there are newer and renovated buildings within the city, the history of the area remains. The streets are narrow and parking is very limited, making it mainly a walking community.

Renovating Palma
The city of Palma is getting a facelift. Residents and investors see the investment potential in the run-down buildings and homes. The idea is to turn abandoned buildings into usable homes, store fronts, and businesses while keeping their historic structures and features intact. Homes, villas, apartments, studios, and impressive penthouses are being created for extra living space within the city.

From updating country homes to transforming abandoned warehouses, renovations are on the rise in Palma. While some buyers like to start from scratch, there are a lot of historic features on the old building located in Palma that can be saved and incorporated into the renovated version of the buildings.

The Need for Renovation in Palma, Majorca
Majorca is an island with limited space and a population of 300,000 people and growing. German and British holidays to Majorca are on the rise. There continues to be a need for permanent and temporary housing on the island. The allure of the island, for many, is to have a secluded piece of property to bask in the sun and maintain a certain level of privacy. For others, however, having a convenient place to stay while there on holiday is more important than owning property on the island.

Overcrowding is becoming an issue in Majorca Spain and residents are getting frustrated by the German and British takeover. Rebuilding the old city of Palma makes sense for a number of reasons, from keeping the Majorcan natives happy to creating more places for those on holiday to stay. There is little room left elsewhere on the island to construct new buildings, and many of the buildings in the city of Palma have been run down and deserted over the years.

Reasons to Buy Property in Palma, Majorca
Majorcan properties are a hot commodity, and owning one or more properties in Palma could be a wise investment as the city rebuilds and flourishes. Here are a few reasons why:

1. Buying property in Palma is traditionally a solid investment.
2. Majorca attracts rich people, from tourists on holiday to celebrities.
3. Palma has homes with historic structural features that are unique and add value to the property.
4. With a limited number of properties on the island of Majorca, there is a high demand for houses and businesses in the Palma area.
5. Owning properties in Palma gives investors great rental opportunities for people on holiday in Majorca. It is not unusual to see buildings transformed into apartments and villas.
6. The weather in Majorca is mild and provides year-round opportunities and attractions.
7. Palma continues to act as the cultural centre of Majorca.
8. Properties in Palma are within close proximity to the airport.

Real estate values in Majorca are expected to rise, especially when the city of Palma is rebuilt and can house even more holiday makers.
