The History of Wesley Chapel, Florida

Submitted by lancemohr

Much of the genealogical research for Wesley Chapel has been accomplished by a local business owner Michael Boyette. Through his investigation he has discovered that Wesley Chapel originally was an element of Hernando. The area was initially developed around the middle of the 1800’s. It appears that the land was originally granted to a Mr. Edward Boyette Sr and his four sons as a result of Florida’s Armed Occupation Act. The name of this community was established in honor of John Wesley the founder of the Methodism faith. The church which signified Wesley Chapel stood directly across the current location of the Double Branch Church. Edward’s grandson Thomas Boyette named this spot Double Branch because of the twin creeks flowing through this property.

The area continued to grow and prosper and today Wesley Chapel real estate is packed with many reasonably valued single family properties and homes. The property values of homes in the Wesley Chapel area have increased in value greatly within the last seven years. The real estate future of this area continues to look favorable for the next five years.

The area of Wesley Chapel is principally located in the suburb, a mere 25 miles to the east of the stunning Gulf of Mexico sandy beaches. In only 25 minutes you could be in downtown Tampa enjoying a day of big city shopping or parking of the wonderful and enjoyable Tampa nightlife.

Wesley Chapel represents a community on the move. The pastures and citrus fields of old have given way for the construction of the upscale neighborhoods and its related luxury homes providing a quality of living for many of Tampa’s executives and their friendly families. These families could have lived anywhere they choose but they preferred the quiet suburban lifestyle afforded by Wesley Chapel. With its newly built shopping center the area continues to expand in an effort to cater to the suburban pioneers who make it what it is today.

The community of Wesley Chapel offers a vast array of communities for ones consideration when selecting a new home. Within this district you will find Seven Oaks with its attractive subdivision, there is also the fashionable Saddlebrook that proudly displays its luxurious lakefront properties as well as its elegant golf course homes. There is also the Meadow Pointe which is a diverse community located in the central part of Wesley Chapel. Meadow Pointe is a world wide attraction and the focal point of for new residents.

From September of 1897 to September of 1902 Wesley Chapel boasted of its own US Post office. In that September of 1902 it was combined into a single post office with Abbott Station. During this time the principle occupations in Wesley Chapel was cash crop farming, cattle and citrus ranching and logging. With the establishment of the interstate highway system in 1960 the area began to become more and more populated and less farming and related fields.
