The district administration said that since coming out of an incubation system to encourage business start-up small production to establish stores in the area.

MEPZ currently houses companies like Cognizant Technology Solutions, Computer Sciences Corporation, CSS, HTC Global Services (India) Pvt Ltd and others are some of the big programs that occupied the space within the area according to the information available on the website MEPZ .

Ajay Mittal, Development Commissioner, Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), said: We made the decision not to encourage greater investment in the area to protect manufacturing companies, especially small units.
They come to us because the land price is low. We advise them to focus on private SEZ to come in and around the city to set up their stores, said Mittal. He added that the area will soon come out with a new intubation" system which supports small start-ups. We will have an exclusive space for entities wishing to set up in 2000 to 2500 square feet.

The proposed system will be the first of its kind in the country which are provided in the SEZ, promoted by the government, said Mittal. Situated in Tambaram, Chennai, the area was established in 1984 with the objective of promoting foreign investment direct, improved foreign exchange earnings and creating employment opportunities. The area has become a special economic zone on January 1, 2003. The objective of the SEZ is to facilitate exports by reducing transaction costs.
