Lofts are the spacious accommodations that are built on the upper part of the old industrial buildings and are used for both residential and non residential purposes. Recently development of lofts has increased to an enormous amount by the real estate businessmen and a large variety of the lofts have been formed. They are located near the downtown and have very high ceilings. These ceilings are usually not lentered and the wooden logs along with all the pipes are visible. The windows are large from ceiling to floor allowing good ventilation and illumination. They have wooden floors, metal stairs, metal appliances and modern furniture. They have no courtyards.

The lofts that have been developed from the industrial areas are known as ‘hard lofts' and those that have been newly constructed for living purpose are known as the ‘soft lofts'.
