When You Are Over Charged On Your Credit Card

Problems with credit card billing arise from time to time. As a wise consumer, you shouldn't just pay the amount that you see on your bill. You have to look through every single transaction printed in its pages and make sure that everything is accurately accounted for. Credit card overcharging is getting quite common these days. When this happens to you, you should take the necessary measures to protect your interest.

When you feel that you are overcharged by your credit card company, get the receipts of that particular transaction and present it to them. Back up your claims with all the necessary documents that you need, including the billing statement in question. It is very important that you keep a copy of your transaction receipt every time, especially if you haven't seen the bill for it yet.

Contact your credit card company right away if you see anything wrong in your statement. Report all instances of overcharging so that they can do the necessary actions to correct it. You can file for overcharging claims for up to six years, but it is still best that you attend to the matter immediately and with utmost concern.

Should all else fails and your credit card company refuses to recognize your claim, you can always go to the courts to ask that the bank look into the validity of your stance. If the court rules in your favor, it will request the card company to refund you of the overcharges and everything else it deems necessary.

You can either go to the small claims court or consult with the financial ombudsman to help you take action against your credit card company. Normally, credit card companies take a week or two before they can rule for or against the overcharging claims you filed. If after two weeks you fail to get any notice or response from the credit card company, that's the time that you consult with the courts about the issue.

It is also possible to talk to a third-party claims processing institution that can serve as a middleman between you and the credit card company. Sometimes, consulting with them speeds up the process and prevents both parties the inconvenience of going to the courts just to find a solution to the problem.
