Barry's Gold Tea is One of Ireland's Favorites

Submitted by Paul Gerst

Barry's Gold is the best selling premium tea in Ireland and has been a favorite in Ireland for generations. Since the Irish consume more tea per capita than any other country, they really know good tea.

Barry's Tea of Cork, Ireland, produces a variety of products. Barry's Gold, the company's most popular tea, is for those that prefer a mild taste. Barry's Gold is a smooth tea that brews amber in color. Like many Irish teas, Barry's Gold has a rich, malty flavor.

Barry's Gold Tea comes in a distinctive red box that includes 80 bags. The tea bags are the traditionally square variety and come in pairs. Barry's Loose tea comes in a gold box and includes 8.8 ounces of loose tea.

Barry's Gold blends tea from Kenya, Rwanda and the Assam valley in India. About 80% of the tea is from Africa since it works particularly well with Irish water. Tea leaves from Kenya and Rwanda provide the drink's special color. Assam tea leaves provide strength and flavor.

Each type of Barry's is a different blend of leaves. Blending various types and amounts of tea leaves create different tastes. Irish brands blend tea in various combinations to produce different tastes. Barry's has approximately 39% of the tea market in Ireland and is second to leader Lyons.

Regarded as Ireland's leading tea company, Barry's started in 1901. James Barry sold tea from a small shop in Cork, Ireland. Until the 190s, it was still sold from this small shop.

Since its inception, Barry's Tea was known for high quality. The company cemented their reputation when they were awarded the prestigious Empire Cup for tea blending in 1934.

All Barry's products are still blended and produced in Ireland and exported across the world. Today, Barry's Tea are available worldwide.
