Central London is particularly vibrant and you can find a host of venues spread across various areas. From Soho to Leicester Square, there are a range of trendy pubs and bars that welcome the gay community with a friendly smile.
Soho Bars
If there is one area in London that really defines the gay scene, then it is Soho. With more venues catering to the needs of gay men than anywhere else, you can always be assured of a good night. Soho has a small and friendly feel to it, and feels more like a cosy town than part of a sprawling cosmopolitan city. A great bar that was part of the original scene and has been going for over 15 years is Village Soho. It attracts a young crowd but maintains a sophistication found in more mature venues. There's also plenty happening on Compton Street, and it is certainly worth a visit as it holds many of the most popular bars and pubs in London. This is a must-see for any visitor.
Gay Events in London
You've probably heard of the Gay Pride Parade in the famous surroundings of Amsterdam. Well, London has its very own, and being the largest of its kind in the UK, it's not to be missed. Taking place in July, Pride London celebrates equality and gay culture, and the growing numbers of the gay communities across the globe. The city is transformed with events and concerts happening each day and night for a fortnight. For something slightly smaller and more intimate, the Soho Pride festival is the perfect event. Still drawing big crowds, the one day event is held in the picturesque Soho Square, which borders many interesting attractions and is close by to the bustling Soho nightlife. Both events are mostly free and attract people from all over the world, which means great value and a great time.
Gay Nightclubs
If you are looking for a little more excitement than a bar or pub, then London is fully equipped to provide a great late night out. Clubs are not in short demand in the capital, and the gay community is especially well catered for. In fact, it can be claimed that some of the best club nights in the city are held at gay clubs, with top artists such as Madonna gracing the stage at various venues. Heaven is a very popular gay club which holds some impressive nights, often featuring professional dancers, big name acts, and good dance music. Very close to the heart of Soho is Ku Bar, which was voted best gay bars in central London. With a trendy and modern feel, Ku Bar is a great place to start the night or to carry on, as its late club bar often stays open until 3:00am.
