Delighting Your Taste Buds With Indian Pickles

Submitted by sharveyj

Had the person realised what he or she was saying, would he have coined the phrase, "Eat to live"? No... certainly not if he had chanced upon the pickle culture of India, because had he done that, he would be dancing in the aisles, his throat hoarse sloganeering "Live To Eat" instead of what he earlier thought.

Indian Pickles have had a presence going way back, in fact, there is mention of pickles even in the Vedic texts, further endorsing the power-packed lure we so easily give into.

India boasts of a pickle culture that seeps into all regions of the country with each pickle being as unique & delicious as no other. Pickles, those tempting taste bud stimulants are much in demand in Indian homes across the world. The admirable fact though is that Indian pickles are gradually making a mark even in non indian homes.

The export figures indicate exponential growth in the pickle trade. What is it about pickles that make them so much in vogue year on year? Is it the taste or the variety or has it got something to do with the longevity of the delicacy?

The answer to the riddle is actually a mixed bag of all the above. The fact that Indian pickles can be made to suit all tastes, both the vegetarians & the non-vegetarians can savour them, & their easy storing makes Indian pickles a hot item. If France, a country boasts of its 300 varieties of cheese then India with over a 1000 types of pickle delights surely should be leading the trumpeters.

Indian pickles titillate the food lover. A gamut of tastes ranging from the sweet to the sour to the pungent are readily found in the sea of Indian pickles. It is also the fact that Indian pickles can be made from almost anything that is readily available in the kitchen drawers. The much devoured mango, lime, chilli pickles are everywhere, so are those made from Vegetable, Fruits, Mutton & hold your breath... there is pickle made from Prawn as well.

Sampling pickles of the same type will also be a pleasant surprise, as the form & taste of each is distinct from the other. The difference has also a lot to do with the nature of spices used & the process of preparation employed in various regions of the country.

Mother's Recipe pickles are specialised preparations, made with the warmth of love & under the expert supervision of the best in the business, catering to all palates...you included.

Sharvey looks into Research and Development Dept. at Mother's Recipe. Experimenting with diverse types of spices & pickles and their combinations has evolved into many tasty recipes. Sharvey's articles add value to tasty and healthy Indian cooking.
