Every time that you are canning foods you need to buy brand new jars and lids. Make sure that you buy the types that can be placed in highly hot temperatures. Lids particularly have to be new because they do not have the ability to seal once they are opened.

You need to clean out each jar, lid, and ring in hot water with soap. This has to be completed even on the brand new ones and afterwards need to be rinsed thoroughly.

Place water in a pot and boil it on a stove. Use long tongs to set the canning jars and lids. inside of the water at the time it begins to boil. Keep them in there for five minutes. Once more use the tongs to take out the jars and lids. Put them on paper towels and let them to air dry. Make a point that there is no water inside of the jars and that they are right side up.
