Modern agriculture has turned 360˚ from its methods and solutions to produce crops that are healthy and beneficial to people and the environment. They are now promoting the natural way of planting fruits and vegetables without chemical enhancements. This is called organic food planting, and this includes organic chocolates. Since the chocolate's raw materials come from the seeds of cacao trees, organic chocolates are those that are produced from cacao trees that were not treated with pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Some of the most popular organic chocolates in the market today are those produced by Booja Booja, Valrhona and Dagoba, among several others. They create gourmet organic chocolates as well as regular gourmet chocolate varieties which include dark chocolate, white chocolate and chocolate covered nuts, fruits, and coffee beans.

Organic chocolates have been around since the ancient times because most farmers in the past didn't use any chemicals to help grow their crops. Aztecs in Mexico enjoyed making drinks from the seeds of cacao trees which they had grown in their farms. Organic chocolates as well as other organic foods lost their significance with the rise of the industrial world. Since men prefer to do things fast and craved results in an instant, several chemical substances in the form of germicides, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers were used to promote the fast growth of plants. Aside from this, using chemicals also help in producing fruits and vegetables which are larger than their regular sizes. The same thing is true in growing cacao trees for making chocolates.

Nonetheless, as early as the 1970s, experts found out that using chemicals to enhance plant growth are harmful to health and the environment. Several studies show that some diseases which they fear are cancerous were found to have been caused by the synthetic and chemical substances found in produce. This is the reason why a lot of chocolatiers nowadays are turning to organic chocolates. The risk of ingesting chemicals harmful to health is too high that ingredients of most chocolates today are being rethought.

Organic chocolates taste as good as any regular chocolate contrary to some beliefs that all healthy food tastes bad. The health benefits from eating organic chocolates include lowering cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, elevating levels of antioxidants in the body, stifling coughing fits, and adding magnesium to your daily diet, among many others. Popular organic chocolate companies are finding ways for chocolate lovers to prefer organic chocolates. This is why Booja Booja, a UK-based chocolate company, came up with the following organic chocolate varieties: Midnight Espresso, Cognac Flambeed Banana and Hazelnut Crunch. Aside from these, they also produce the more standard kinds of chocolates such as dark and white chocolates as well as chocolate products used for cooking and drinking.
