I didn't really think much about what I like taking in while I was growing up; perhaps this is why I didn't really develop healthy eating habits, try as my mother might. Not that she was a healthy eater herself, but she does try to pay attention to what we were all eating and cut back on the stuff that was really bad for our health – it was a habit that my grandmother had instilled in her while she was growing up herself. Somehow, it simply didn't reach me. Up until very recently in my life, I thought of “bad” food as the delicious food and the “healthy” food as the food that I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. When my mother decided to remarry, I discovered, to my great shock, that there are healthy, well-balanced dishes that actually tasted good. Whether or not this had anything to do with the fact that my stepfather had a talent for cooking (he could have been a chef, and not an antique dealer, if he wanted to) is immaterial. The fact is that one day, he served us a healthy, delicious meal (lemon grass chicken) and I found myself hooked. Specifically, on lemon grass.

Lately, I've been having lemon grass tea everyday, and to my sheer delight, it seems to be helping my respiratory problems. Prior to getting into lemon grass tea, I was having horrible asthma attacks every other month, especially when I do anything to get me overexcited (which I often do). After getting into lemon grass, I swear on everything I love that I have not needed to use a Nebulizer or an inhaler. I'm not saying that it's a miracle cure. I'm simply sharing a profound truth I had discovered: every little bit helps.
