Simple Ways to Make Better MealsSubmitted by neillisa Wed, 10 Jun 2009
Are your dinners starting to become bland and boring? Maybe you\'ve just gotten used to serving the same dishes every other day, or you\'re simply out of ideas. Many people face the same problem: when you have three meals to plan every day, it can be hard to come up with something new and keep your family interested.
But who said each meal had to be completely different? Sometimes, all you need is a few quick changes to completely turn the tables and make old dishes taste like new. Here are four simple ways to jazz up your meals on a budget. Use fresher ingredients. A lot of the stuff you find at the grocery are actually loaded with preservatives, even if they claim to be fresh. Try spending more time at the fresh produce section, and check each item carefully to make sure it\'s still new. They may all look the same, but you\'ll really taste the difference once you get used to eating fresh whole foods. Try slow cooking. Slow cooking involves cooking food on low heat for longer hours, instead of the other way around as with stovetop cooking. The process helps coax out the natural juices from your food, so you don\'t need extra fat, spices, or flavorings to enhance the taste. It also allows you to experiment with various meat cuts or even new spices and vegetables. Put a spin on the classics. Everyone loves a good roast beef, but sometimes they all just taste the same. Revive these "classic" dishes by tweaking the recipe and adding one or two new ingredients. It can be a new herb, a different sauce, or just a change in the proportions. You\'ll be surprised at the difference a little change can make. Serve an appetizer. Appetizers do exactly what their name implies: they whet your appetite by stimulating your taste buds. This helps them anticipate the main course and enjoy the food more. It\'s a great way to get the kids to eat more, even if you\'re serving vegetables. Use light, healthy appetizers such as vegetable soup or fresh veggies with dip.
Better meals aren\'t necessarily more expensive or less enjoyable. You can eat better and healthier while still enjoying your dinners. Here are some tips to help you out.
