In addition to placing a stone coaster under your drink glass to keep the condensation from pooling on the top of the table, you can also buy coasters for wine bottles. Buy a coaster that matches your set of drink coasters so that you can feel comfortable laying the bottle of wine on the table and know that the liquid will not form a ring around the bottom of the bottle or the water won\'t run down the bottle to make a stain on the tabletop.

You can have a stone coaster set in a wine theme as well which will add to the occasion for which you are hosting a wine party. The large coasters are about 4. 5 inches in diameter and are well able to accommodate a bottle of wine as well as a wide range of sizes of drink glasses. The stone used to make these coasters is very porous which makes it very absorbent. It is well able to hold ¼ cup of liquid that does condense on glasses and runs down the sides.

The coasters have cork backing which keeps them from sliding across the table when you least expect it resulting in accidental spills and glass breakage. The cork backing on a stone coaster also aids in its absorbency because cork is an absorbent material on its own. The liquid seeps through the stone face and into the cork. The liquid then evaporates into the air, which means you do not have to dump out the liquid from time to time or replace the coasters when they get very wet.

The cork also has a protective purpose in that it will keep the stone from causing scratched to your furniture. The rough edges are sanded out smoothly and a coating is applied to the stone so that the surface is smooth, yet textured enough to prevent the glass from sticking to the coaster when it gets wet. You do have to be careful when cleaning a stone coaster. Since harsh detergents can be harmful to both the cork and the stone, you should never but these items in the dishwasher.

You can just give them a light cleaning from time to time by wiping them off with a damp cloth. If you notice that one or more of the coasters has a stubborn stain, you can clean them quite easily using a bowl of water and a small amount of mild dish detergent. Dip the stone part of the coaster in the water and remove it. Then scrub it lightly with a cloth and rinse with warm water. Leave the coasters to dry naturally. You should never use chlorine bleach to clean stone of any kind.

All stone coasters will lose their absorbency over time due to a buildup of dust and will benefit from regular cleanings to restore their absorbent quality. Using a stone coaster for the bottle of wine will still help to keep the wine chilled. Stone is a natural material that will also help to keep liquids in the glasses that are laid on it cold or hot depending on the temperature of the liquid. This means that a coaster made of stone will keep your drink cold just as it will keep your coffee hot.
