What’s So Good About Speciality Teas?Submitted by mjjames1 Thu, 4 Dec 2008
Speciality Teas are much more exciting and rewarding than tea bags. Whilst speciality teas require more preparation and care than just putting a tea bag into a cup of boiling water, the taste is definitely worth it. In addition there are many health benefits associated with drinking these specialist teas.
Green Tea Green Teas have been proven to have amazing health benefits which are well documented. Green Tea can help with weight loss, and has anti-aging and cancer-fighting properties. The Japanese have one of the longest lifespans in the world, which is partly due to drinking Green Tea. Well known green teas are Oolong, Jasmine, Sencha and Gunpowder Pinhead. Green teas taste fresh and clean, and are not usually served with milk or sugar. Black Tea Black Teas are more oxidised than green and white teas, and are fully fermented during processing. This gives them a Well-known black teas are such as Earl Grey, English Tea, Lapsang Souchong, Assam, Darjeeling, and Kenya tea. These black teas are flavoursome and aromatic and not everybody will like them, but why don’t you try them anyway? White Tea White Tea is made from leaves picked before the leaves are fully opened, and are still covered with a white hair, hence the name. White tea contains less caffeine than black tea and green tea, and also has more cancer fighting properties than green tea. White Teas, such as Pai Mu Tan, Golden Moon, White Peony and Silver Needle, are mainly produced in China and Japan, but the Darjeeling region of India is well known for its white teas. These teas have a light and sweet flavour to them. Puerh Tea Puerh Teas, sometimes known as Pu-Erh, are named after the Chinese region in which they are grown. Puer tea is aged to give it a mellow, earthy character, and can be aged for up to 50 years. It is well known for its medicinal properties such as helping to reduce cholesterol, reducing weight and helping to reduce high blood pressure. It is also the perfect tea for after a heavy meal as it aids digestion. Puerh Tea leaves are pressed together during processing, to form a solid block, and Puerh tea is usually sold as a block, or a ball, rather than in leaves. Although currently relatively unknown outside of China, Puerh is becoming increasingly popular throughout the world. As well as making better-tasting tea than tea bags, speciality teas allow you to try different sorts of teas from around the world, and see which ones you like. You might not like all of them, but you will definitely have your favourites. One thing is certain, is that once you try speciality teas, you won’t want to use normal tea bags again!
