Wines have a long history. Wines have been made and drunk in all periods of history of mankind, from ancient to modern. With exploratory expeditions and the new settlements around the world carried out by the explorers, wine too became widespread in terms of its growth areas, spreading around the world. Presently, wine is grown is almost all the parts of world, though some of the regions are most suited for its growth than the others. It grows best in Mediterranean climate with suitable soil qualities, though it is also grown in other climatic regions as well. However, most of the finest wines come from the Mediterranean region itself. Right from the growth of different varieties of grapes to the marketing of the wines across the world, it is quite a well organized and established industry. Though the European wines score over all other in terms of their quality and taste as well as brand value, the Australia wine has grown to appreciable prominence as well.

Australia wine is mostly grown in the river valleys in the south eastern part of the country, consisting of South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and other nearby regions. Some of the areas have a long tradition of growing the wines. Despite the home grown wines, the wines are also imported from other parts of the world to meet the increasing demands of the people. Australian wine buyers participate in the wine auction held in the finest vineries of the world for getting hold of the wine at cheaper rates. Special wine auction, En Premieur, is the one where the wines are sold much before these attain maturity. This enables the wine buyers to lay their hands on the finest of wines at the cheapest of rates. Wine tasters play a very important role in the gradation of the wines and the selection of the finest quality wines, much before these attain maturity. Their skills and experience are used by the most popular brands of wines to procure the best of wines.

Australia contributes in another major way to the European wine industry. Due to the difference in the location of Australia and Europe, being in different hemispheres, there is a difference of seasons in the growing seasons of grapes for viticulture. The Australian vineyard workers find good employments in Europe in their Australian off season. This facilitates exchange of know-how of wine growing across continents and this has contributed to greater appreciation of Australia wine not only in Europe but also in other parts of the world.

Sale of Australia wine has registered increase, both from the domestic sector as well as from other parts of the world. People buy wine from various channels. The big buyers participate in the tasting and auctions. The common people can buy from the retailers next door or can even order for the online wine, using the internet. The companies have developed specialization in delivering wines far and wide and therefore deliveries can be done safe over long distances.
