Drink Red Wine To Your Hearts Content

Drink moderately. You often hear or see this message after advertisements for alcoholic beverages. There is no arguing over the fact that alcoholic drinks should be taken in moderation. This warning is relayed not only to prevent accidents from happening but also to avoid health complications. Having said that, you may be wondering why we mentioned drinking red wine to your heart's content.

According to studies, drinking red wine can be favorable to your heart among other health benefits. It is no secret that red wines are produced from red or black grape varieties. Because of this, red wines proved to be a good source of phytochemicals (chemicals found in plants), specifically polyphenols. There are two polyphenols present in red wines namely catechins and resveratol.

Catechins and resveratol are regarded as antioxidants. To give you a little background, there are such things like free radicals. These are chemicals which are exceedingly reactive and unstable. To reach the state of stability, free radicals attack stable molecules and steal electrons, in a manner of speaking. The attacked molecules then become free radicals and the cycle continues. It may not sound that bad when put this way but it can actually lead to the disintegration of a living cell which can result to serious disease such as cancer.

This is where antioxidants come in. Antioxidants are known to be the very thing that can fight off free radicals. They counterbalance free radicals by giving their electrons thus putting an end to the cycle of "attacking" and "stealing". The reason why in spite of donating electrons antioxidants do not become free radicals is that they are already stable regardless of the electrons.

Antioxidants particularly resveratol has the ability to control the cholesterol level. Partnered with saponin, another antioxidant which was recently discovered to be present in red wine too, they can even help reduce one's cholesterol level which prevents atherosclerosis.

Knowing that redwine is indeed a great source of antioxidants, you can definitely drink red wine to your heart's content! Of course, you still have to consider responsible drinking. Overindulgence never resulted into something good.

To enjoy red wine to the fullest, you may want to try joining a wine club. Monthly wine clubs deliver a couple of bottles to their members every month. Members of wine of the month clubs have the convenience of having high quality wines sent to their homes on time each month for the right price. For more information check out: http://vino.com
