An alcoholic beverage that is prepared by fermentation of unaltered grape juice will result in Red Wine, the world's favorite dinner drink. The fermentation of the grapes does not involve addition of any acids, enzymes or sugars. Red wine takes a special place in diets and in various customs and occasion. It stands for several aspects one's life including culture, class, refinement and maturity. One of the most famous varieties of red wine would surely have to be Cabernet Sauvignon which can also be blended with other varieties to yield even more complex mixtures.
The color of red wine is not due to various grape varieties used in preparing it. Several grape varieties have including the ones that are red in color, deep purple and sometimes even blue can be used to prepare red wine. The color of red wines is however due to the grape skins which disperses its color to the juice during fermentation along with tannin, which is the major component of the skin. The hue of red depends on the variety of grape and the time allowed for the skin to be in contact with the juice. Nearly 50 distinct red wine varieties are available in the market today. Besides being an excellent meal beverage, red wines are known to have medical applications too. It has been researched that limited amounts of red wine can actually minimize the risk of hear attack for middle aged men and women. The quantity of wine, however, should not exceed one glass for women and two for men in a day. For people who have suffered heart attacks previously, red wines can also lower the risk of another one. In order to extract the maximum out of red wines, drinking them in glasses made for them specially will be a good idea. It is always preferred to a glass which can hold 10-20 ounces of a liquid and has a lot of room order to allow the wine to breathe and swirl. An oval shaped bowl which slightly narrows upwards is excellent for enjoying red wines. The temperature of serving red wine is highly crucial. Around 30 degrees Celsius is usually the ideal temperature for most wines. Any temperature higher or lower than the optimum temperature will ruin the taste of the wine. High temperature will pronounce the taste of alcohol while a low temperature will make it taste bitter.
