Side Effects of Drinking SodaSubmitted by rickhutch Sat, 26 Jul 2008
Don't have soda in your house at all. I know some people who use the excuse that they need it for when company comes over because their family and friends like it, then they end up just drinking it themselves anyway and just keep restocking it. Well you are the person that has to see it every day in your fridge. People aren't going to stop coming to your house because you don't have soda. If you don't have it in your house, the temptation isn't staring you in the face every time you open the refrigerator.
Soda has been known to comprise certain chemicals that make you feel dehydrated. This is the reason why, even after drinking lots of soda, you continue to feel thirsty. There is high sugar content and too much fructose corn syrup in soda. Too much consumption of it can easily make you put on excessive weight. Soda does not have any nutritional value. Drinking it regularly means that you are just adding on empty calories. Excessive consumption of soda can result in high blood sugar, which can lead to faintness, rapid heart rate, and dehydration. "Soft drinks have long been suspected of leading to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. When phosphate levels are high and calcium levels are low, calcium is pulled out of the bones. The phosphate content of soft drinks like Coca -Cola and Pepsi is very high, and they contain virtually no calcium." Soda is full of sugar and high fructose corn syrup. It is a proven fact that consuming high fructose corn syrup and large amounts of sugar will make you put on weight. There is absolutely no nutritional value in a soda. Basically, when you drink a soda you are adding putting empty calories into your body. if you consume more calories than you burn in a day, you will add gain weight. Now, not many people actually want to gain weight. And if you really did want to gain weight, you should do it with nutritional food and not soda. By drinking one can of soda a day, you can gain up to 15 pounds in a year. And that is only one can a day: most people drink anywhere from 3-5 cans a day of soda. Soft drink consumption may be a major factor for osteoporosis as they are high in phosphates but contain virtually no calcium. This leads to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. The United States ranks first among countries for soft drink consumption with a per capita consumption of approximately 15 ounces a day." THE ESOPHAGEAL CANCER RISK: Though a 2004 study by the Tata Medical Center in India found a correlation between esophageal cancer and carbonated soft drink consumption, a 2006 follow-up study by the Yale School of Medicine found no evidence linking soda consumption with an increased risk of any type of esophageal or gastric cancer. However, it’s important to note that carbonated soft drinks can contribute to acid reflux disease, which is a risk factor for esophageal cancer. Therefore, you should limit sodas if you have or are starting to develop acid reflux disease.
