Why the premium wine comes mostly from Europe?

Submitted by unitedcellars

When searching for the premium wines on the internet, it was found that most of the wines which were labeled premium or expensive were bearing the names which looked similar to the names of the places in Europe. Further intensive searches with the names of the wines brought forward that fact. Most of the wine companies which make or trade in wines invariably have some sort of European connection for the best quality wines.

It is not that wine is grown only in European countries. It is grown in many other parts of the world as well but when it comes to premium wine, the choice most often is preferred for the European Wine only. What makes this region so special? Why is everyone headed there to buy wine of good quality? There are many reasons which have led to this reputation for these regional wines. Some are:
1. Climate and Weather: Most of Europe has typical climate of bright sunshine during the summers and it rains during the winters. This typical climate is called the Mediterranean type of climate. This climate is suited for the growth of wineries in the best possible way. Wherever this type of climate is found, there is a general tendency to grow the wineries.
2. Organized industry: The wine industry in Europe is very well organized. Right from the sowing and plucking of grapes, industrial treatment to make the wine, marketing and sales across the world makes European wines enjoy an enviable position. The level of specialization in all aspect of this business is far ahead of the other grapes-growing regions.
3. Historicity: Wineries were grown on modern scale quite early on in this part of the world. This makes this region take the lead in this business and the same continues even now. This also helped some of the first brands to be developed and gain popularity. Their names continue to be representative of quality wine even now.
4. Excellent marketing: Ask any person who loves to taste wine to name some wines from Europe and he will tell you without much thought. Ask the same for other regions and the time taken will get lengthened considerably. This has been so because of the marketing initiatives which are undertaken by the wine companies. Europeans have been far ahead of others in this drive and have been doing it for a longer period of time than the others. As a result they have developed good channels. Even the online medium of promoting the wines has not been left untouched. Their excellent marketing has given them an unbeatable lead over the others.

These are some of the most essential factors which have contributed to the growth of European wines as the premium wines all around the world. Wines are sold out even before these are mature and bottled, through the auction route after these are tasted by the professional tasters and graded.
