Maybe a good idea to try the upgrade first on a test site.  I tested it with 1.3 to 2.0 and I'l upgrade this site tomorrow, so that can be a good test to see if it works with a large number of articles.  (be patient with the upgrade though, it can take several minutes to complete)

Hi Dajavu

i have upgraded a test site from 1.3 to 2.0 and all worked but not the Update Templates

I have tested to upgrade 4 templates and only the one 3 col based on the default template has been upgraded.
The other templates did not get the header and footer that was not in the MAIN template but in the HEADER and FOOTER templates

The template update is really basic, it pretty much just replace the old skin with the new default one, while saving the homepage and Main template. You will have to update most of the customizations manually unfortunately.
I'm not sure what happened went wrong with the template update for you, can you please give a few more details.

Go to the bottom of the page Go to the top of the page

you can look at this

http ://articlemstemplates.allbestarticles.com/

as you can see there is not the header and the footer and also the right and left sidebar are not well formatted

as said the header and footer code is respectively into the header and footer template not in the main

hope you can do something for this :)

The header and footer templates looks ok (view the html source)
However the upgrade function does not really upgrade all that well, which is why the site looks badly formatted.  (it is simply too much changes to code to get a good upgrade function so it cheats by using the default template. )
Bad news is that you will have to manually update most of the template. (you can copy/paste the blocks from the old skin if you still have it)

No also in the html surce you can find the header  code from the default but not the code i added in the template that i want to update, and nothing from the footer, becouse the default template have all the layout code in the main.

so when the update save the main and the homepage all the code in header and in the footer will be lost.

it'll be possible to get also the header and the footer?
Maybe this will help to do less manual update?

There is a reason why it replace the header code - the new version has extra variables in the header required to correctly load the javascript and css files. You will have to copy/paste the changes back into the new template (maybe one way is to keep open a test site with version 1.3, and just cut/paste the blocks from there to the new site.)

I know that there is something different in the header :)

i'm just wondering if there is a way to get from the header the code after the
<body>
{$this->start_body_includes}

also in the footer there is nothing different so maybe it could be saved and added ?

Yup I'l fix that.  I noticed a few other minor issues as well with the upgrade (which took a rather long time to finish with 180 000 articles...)
Will post an update soon.
