Electronic medical records are a big topic of discussion these days. The reasons why are numerous. Every medical care worker has their own personal beliefs about the topic. The question is why is it so important? In a quest to answer this very topic, here is a list of the 6 top reasons for having medical records today. The focus for this list is on the practical side of the discussion.

Paperwork is the first topic. It is also the first reason for having electronic medical records today. Today we live in a world that is focused on going "green". If all of the medical field used technical tools like electronic records, the "green" goal would be closer to being a reality. Obviously not using paper is the way to save paper. Digital records are a way to save on paper. It also prevents loosing records to trash.

This leads us to our next point. The next top reason for having electronic medical records is the manageability factor. It is hugely more efficient to have records in the digital format. You can email a record quickly. You can send it that way faster than scanning it and then mailing it through the mail system. Even a courier would be a slower method. So in managing work more efficiently, you really would need digital record over paper records.

The third reason on the list for the top 6 reasons for having electronic medical records is about security of the patients. The security of the patients today is more crucial than ever. Nobody wants a disaster happening to their loved ones because the medical facility failed to administer the proper medicine to a patient. In order to prevent this you have to have a secure method to maintain the data of the patients medical records. Paper is not the best choice because it can get lost or burned. Digital, electronic medical records are just the thing to master this efficiency in the security of the patients.

Digital medical records for patients also helps prevent human error. This is really easy to maintain. Data bases can be configured to make sure that no error is ever made on any patient. Security of the validity of the record can be achieved in this method as well. The conversion to electronic medical records significantly reduces the human error. This can even save the medical facility hundreds of thousands of dollars as well.

The fifth top reason for having electronic medical records is the cost discounting insurance. When all of the savings happen, and all of the accuracy is improved, you have a benefit to the insurance field as well. Efficiency always benefits the cost in anything. This is certainly true of the medical fields.

Last on the list of the top 6 reasons for having electronic medical records is the ability for doctors and nurses to concentrate better at work. Logically speaking, the doctors and nurses can focus and perform better on their work when the documentation side is easy. Having electronic records provides the doctors and nurses the chance to not act as clerks. Honestly many hours of wasted time is performed on documenting the work that they do. This solves that problem.
