The field of radiology is making progress faster today than anyone could have ever imagined. With the breakthroughs in technologies such as MRI’s, CR systems, and the DICOM viewer, it’s easy to see why so medical imaging is the fastest growing sector in all of medicine. Everyday researchers are busy working to create machines which not only work quicker, but also more accurately.

In case you didn’t know, radiology is the study of using medical imaging technology to diagnose and treat disease and injuries. The field of medical imaging used to be limited to reading bulky and, often times, blurry x-ray film. However, the field has grown exponentially due to advances in imaging techniques such as the MRI or DICOM viewer. Today’s medical imaging professionals operate machines using high-frequency sound waves, radioactivity, DICOM conversion, and magnetic fields to take images. DICOM viewers, ultrasounds and magnetic resonance imaging machines are just some of the many devices in modern imaging technology.

These state of the art imaging machines perform a wide variety of tasks ranging from performing a standard x-ray, to transmitting a brain scan over a DICOM web viewer to analyzing blood samples. The majority of imaging technology can provide more than one service, making them useful and some cases, irreplaceable in hospitals and clinics. With so many radiology machines in use, it is impossible for every physician to use every piece of equipment or even know how to interpret data a certain machine, such as a DICOM viewer, collects.

Another fantastic development in radiology has been the conversion over to electronic medical reporting using DICOM systems or a DICOM web viewer, for example. These new digital systems are a far superior to the old-fashioned film method of documentation. In a DICOM viewer, technology with computer-based systems offer more practical advantages, ranging from better turnaround time, increased storage capability, the ability to easier manage and maintain digital images through a DICOM printer, and the ability to instantly exchange results.

The key features of this tool include:

• In-depth Search Tools - Powerful search options assist the immediate location of a patient's records by name, date, timeslot and more. This information is then capable of being printed through a DICOM printer.

• Security Levels – Medical staff can be provided varying levels of access security within the system based on clearance.

• Accessibility – A DICOM viewer allows for any time viewing of radiology images on any PC equipped with a closed network or through hospitals connected in a network through the internet.

Many of us are familiar with the most common type of medical imaging equipment, the X-ray, but were you aware there are many different types of imaging machines that help doctors diagnose health issues? Advancements in medical imaging equipment, ranging from DICOM viewers and DICOM conversion to ultrasounds and MRI’s are astounding.
