Abdominal hernias can be annoying and at times can be dangerous. Learn how your doctor will treat them.Submitted by tonks21 Fri, 26 Jun 2009
There are several types of hernias that people might have to manage with and that are able to occur within the stomach, belly button, and groin. Some are stimulated because of an earlier surgical operation while others may have formed when the patient was born and produced over time. One of the more general form is the abdominal hernia.
This is stimulated when the intestines are fighting through a vulnerable part in the wall of the belly. There are many things that might have weakened the abdominal wall - but it is not always know to some people that they have one at all. Because most hernias do not induce any pain the only way that the individual will understand that they have one is when they experience a slight ache in their belly or see a bulge that should not be there. The common things that will stimulate the ache or make the bulge more evident is extended period of sitting down or standing, pain when coughing or raising heavy objects, or pain while straining during bowel movements. Those who do go through pain might experience a dull throb or a sharp pain that will grow when pressure is put on the belly. It is critical that you make an appointment with your physician instantly so that they can find out what it is and how it has to be addressed. The treatment for abdominal hernias can be rather easy as long as it is not strangulated. When the hernia is strangulated it will become a serious matter that demands surgery in order for it to be withdrawn and the abdominal wall repaired. If it is not painful and only produces a bulge you will be able to treat it by putting on definite types of 'girdles' that will keep the hernia pushed in. You may also force it back inside of yourself from time to time. Yet, if you would instead get rid of the abdominal hernia then you will be able to speak with you physician and ask them the safest procedure to use. About the Author
