Buying Herbs in Bulk is Simple with These StepsSubmitted by AnneHarvester Tue, 24 Feb 2009
At this point, I'm sure you're all aware of the health benefits of organic herbs. However, it can sometimes be difficult to purchase bulk herbs or bulk spices. I find that locating certain, not so common herbs to be one of the most frustrating things about trying to implement into my diet. It's important to know where to look and how to shop to find the best deals.
Here are a few points I like to keep in mind when shopping for bulk herbs and bulk spices: Be Careful As you shop for certain dried herbs, you'll quickly notice companies making claims that their herbs can promise miracles or that their products heals every disease imaginable. These are red flags warning you to stay away from them. Be mindful of companies which only sell one type of product. Many of these end up just being scams. Know what you want When shopping for bulk herbs and bulk spices, buy from a company which labels both the Latin as well as the Common name o the herb on its labels. They should let you know the strength their organic herbs and organic spices along with any warnings associated with them, as well. What to look for in a supplier When shopping around for dried herbs, try to see if there are any suppliers reasonably close to where you live. It is always better if you are able to see, smell and touch the bulk herbs before make a purchase. If it is at all possible, see if a supplier's inventory of organic herbs and organic spices has been food graded. Read labels No matter what else you do when buying bulk herbs it is important that you always read and check the labels very carefully. Never simply rely on the common name of the herb and assume. Look at its scientific name so that you know exactly what you are buying. If you are forced to make your choice based on what information the company has provided, don't be afraid to ask questions. If they don't respond to these questions, move on to a new supplier. Take your time before you make any purchasing decisions. A reputable herb supplier will have packed their bulk herbs in sealed packages meeting local health department standards. However, t is important to keep in mind that bulk herbs are often untreated so they won't have any chemical residue on them. While the packaging will claim its contents are natural, botanical, wild or pesticide free, this isn't always the case. Always ask the supplier what kind of conditions the dried herbs were grown and gathered in before packaging. About the Author
