How to Boost your Brain Power

Get Sufficient Exercise is good for your brain as well as your body. Exercise increases the flow of Oxygen to your brain, helping to improve your concentration and allowing you to think clearer, sharper and faster. And the more you exercise your brain, the better it will perform and the better you will feel. You will be able to concentrate better, make decisions faster, solve problems more quickly and be more creative. And now we know that exercise also helps to promote the growth of new brain cells.

The leaves of the Gotu Kola are a favorite food among elephants. Perhaps this is why there is an age-old adage that says "having a memory like an elephant." Whatever the case may be, goto kola is showing a great deal of promise as one of the best memory supplements and memory pills. It has been attributed a broad range of benefits that include enhancing mental acuity, staving off memory deterioration, and improving blood flow by strengthening blood vessels.

Chocolate may provide a short-term boost of cognitive skills and sharpen the mind, according to University of Nottingham researchers . The researchers suggested that flavanols, a compound present in chocolate as well as certain fruits and vegetables, may help people fight fatigue, the effects of aging, or sleep deprivation.

These are thought to act on oestrogen receptors in the human brain, particularly those in the hippocampus, which we know is a crucial area for memory. As a result, new nerve connections may form more readily. Medical trials have revealed that persons fed a high Soya diet showed improvements in verbal and non-verbal memory and in mental flexibility.

Good sources of Soya include Soya milk and tofu. Berries Fruit such as Blueberries, Blackberries, Cranberries, Strawberries and Raspberries contain anti-oxidants, helping to rid the body of harmful free radicals produced during body cells converting oxygen into energy. Scientific Studies have shown that a good dietary intake of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables will significantly reduce the risk of developing "Cognitive Impairment".

If you do decide to take gingko, don't expect any sudden, dramatic changes. The effects of gingko biloba can take weeks or even months, to become noticeable, and not all people experience an improvement. As many as 50 per cent of the people who take a standardized dose of gingko do not notice any improvements whatsoever. People who take gingko may claim to feel somewhat more alert, and somewhat better able to concentrate. In some cases, the improvements are often so minor that they are barely noticeable.

Another benefit of exercise is that it aids in keeping glucose levels normal. Glucose is important in the proper functioning of the brain, so even a slight decline in the level of glucose may have a great impact on brain functions of an old person. A research conducted by the New York University's Center for Brain Health showed that people who have problematic glucose tolerance did not only perform badly in memory tests, but also showed signs of brain shrinkage compared to those who had normal glucose tolerance or control.
