Processed foods and some vitamins and medications may contain food coloring and additives that can worsen asthma; yellow dye (tartrazine), for example, is well known for provoking attacks. Asthma attacks may also be triggered by a high-salt diet, and some studies have shown that reducing salt intake can enhance pulmonary function. Some people are sensitive to foods that trigger mucous production in the body, especially dairy and wheat. Additionally, excess dietary tryptophan can aggravate respiratory conditions. Foods high in tryptophan include turkey, chicken, dairy products, soy and seafood.

Vitamin C is important is reducing asthma attacks. It is able to stop bronchial constriction and reduce histamine production and release. It also helps to lower histamine levels, after histamine is released into the blood. So take between 2000 mg to 4000 mg per day.
Spread them out to 3 times per day with each meal. Use Ester C if other Vitamin C supplements give you stomach problems. If you have diarrhea when taking vitamin C, just back off on the amount you are taking, until you have no more diarrhea.

Begin your day with a glass of boiled purified water and sip at least one litre throughout the day. Bathe every evening and add a generous handful of both Epsom and Glauber's salts to warm water. Reduce or eliminate sodas and sweets, even reduce fruit that is too concentrated with natural sugars such as dried fruit. Juices should always be watered down for kids, anyway. Reduce salt intake and cut out artificial sweeteners, and check your labels for additives and other unnatural colors, etc. More natural foods are better for everyone, not just asthmatics. A low salt diet may reduce bronchial sensitivity and improve asthma status as well. Remember, work with the child on all levels because emotional distress is also animportant asthma trigger that is often overlooked.

It has a good history of helping asthma sufferers.

Exercise helps some people with asthma and breathing conditions as it strengthens and improves endurance and reduces breathlessness to some extent. Some breathing exercises may help improve lung function and can be learnt by working with a respiratory therapist. When learning breathing techniques, it is important to work with an appropriately trained professional because the techniques are not good for everyone. Attending pulmonary rehabilitation is the best way to learn exercise and breathing techniques.
