Ashoka is a sacred plant and has a religious importance. It is reported to have a stimulating effect on the endometrium and ovarian tissue. It's use in treatment of excessive uterine bleeding, dysmenorrhoea, depression, bleeding hemorrhoid, and uterine fibroid. It is considered a uterine sedative and tonic for women in India.

The bark of the asoka tree is given to women who experience extreme blood loss during menstruation due to leucorrhea or uterine fibroids. The plant has a stimulating effect on the uterine wall and the mucus layer in the reproductive tract.

In the chronic condition, medicines like Ashokarishta, Bolbaddha Rasa, Kamdudha, Laxadi Guggulu, Chandraprabha, Praval Bhasma, Dashmoolarishta, Lodhrasava and Shatavari Ghruta are used. Individual herbal medicines which are very useful are: Ashoka (Saraca indica), Ulatkambal (Abroma augusta), Dashmool (Ten roots), Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa), Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Vasa (Adhatoda vasica) and Udumbar (Ficus glomerata).

Ovulation disorder is the most common female infertility factor. This most often occurs because of a disturbance in the reproductive system involving the hypothalamus (an area in the brain), pituitary gland, adrenal glands, thyroid gland, the ovaries and the uterus. This disturbed cycle can be normalized by using traditional Ayurvedic formulations like Chandraprabha Vati, Yograj Guggulu, Ashokarishta and Dashmoolarishta. Herbal medicines useful in this disorder are: Ashoka( Saraca indica),

Dashmool (Ten Roots), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Aloes (Aloe vera), Guggulu (Commiphora mukul), Hirabol (Commiphora myrrha) and Harmal (Paganum harmala).

Medicines like Arogya-Vardhini, Triphala-Guggulu, Kanchnar-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Mahamanjishthadi-Qadha, Chandraprabha-Vati, Ashokarishta, Ashoka (Saraca indica), Daruharidra (Berberis aristata), Udumbar (Ficus glomerata), Ulatkambal (Abroma augusta), Shalmali (Bombax malabaricum), Vasa (Adhatoda vasica), and Tandullya (Amaranthus polygamus) are used to treat the local tumor. In addition, medicated douches containing Triphala (Three fruits) and Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra) are used to treat local ulceration.

In order to prevent or reduce the severity of recurrences, medicines like Chandraprabha-Vati, Ashokarishta, Gandharva-Haritaki, Hingashtak-Churna and Saraswatarishta can be given for several months. The herb Ashoka (Saraca indica), forms the main stay of treatment for this condition. If given regularly for several menstrual cycles, it can correct the dysfunction and disproportionate levels of sex hormones.
