Tasty Fair Trade TeaSubmitted by AnneHarvester Mon, 26 Jan 2009
fair trade tea is something that tea drinkers can get excited about. It simply means that the teas are produced by workers in foreign countries who are paid a fair wage for growing, harvesting, curing and selling the tea. Knowing that the producers are getting fair treatment can make you feel good, and so can the wonderful fair trade tea that you drink.
On a cold winter day, there is nothing better than a hot drink, and organic black tea is wildly popular because of that. Organic black tea does contain a bit of caffeine, so it mildly helps you to wake up in the morning or late afternoon when you feel a little groggy. However, organic black tea contains much less caffeine than coffee and some carbonated beverages, and so makes a more healthful choice. If you prefer herbal teas, you will be glad to know that bulk green tea is available as a fair trade tea. Bulk green tea is simply a loose tea that you will use with a tea strainer in your tea cup or tea pot. Many tea drinkers enjoy using loose tea because it allows you the opportunity to custom blend your favorite flavors of fair trade tea together in combinations of your own choosing. You can blend black teas or herbal teas according to your preference for the additional caffeine or not. Tea aficionados enjoy the spiciness of Chai loose tea varieties, which combine black tea with cinnamon and cloves, among other flavors. The always popular Earl Grey loose tea derives its distinctive taste from oil of bergamot. English Breakfast tea is a traditional black tea, and it not only works well as a hot drink but is also delicious served as an iced tea as well. These are but a sampling of the dozens of tea varieties sold in bulk on the market today. Fair trade tea may also include organic teas that can be found sold loose in bulk. Organically grown plants use no chemical pesticides or fertilizers in their production. The land upon which the organic products are grown must not have had chemicals used on it for several years prior to the cultivation of organic crops, so that no residual chemicals are drawn up into the plant through its root system. Water runoff from neighboring properties is also carefully monitored so that no chemicals leach onto the property growing organic crops. No matter what flavor and type of tea you enjoy drinking, you can gain personal satisfaction knowing that the tea you purchase has been fairly traded, and that you are doing your part to help farmers around the world continue to grow your favorite drink.
