Vitiligo- disease also known as leucoderma. Vitiligo is infact a pigment skin disorder caused either due to destruction of melanin or toally retarded production. This disease is so caused neither by any germs, nor is it that due to bad blood. The problem generally starts with a small white spot and after on it so develops into patches.

These patches are in colour pale in the beginning but become whiter and whiter as time passes that due to loss of pigment. There isa evenl loss of pigment melanin right from the skin layers which results in white patches. These patches look ugly and especially in persons with a dark complexion. The condition does not cause any organic harm and As spots enlarge, they merge to get into each other and, in course of time, form a really very broad patch.

Vitiligo does not differentiate in between races, other religions or even socio-economic groups. Females are more generally affected than males.Heredity is also a causative factor and that about 30 per cent of patients have a family history of the disorder. The main causes of vitiligo are even said to be excessive mental worry, chronic or acute gastric disorders or impaired hepatic function such as jaundice, worms or other parasites in the pre alimentary canal, typhoid, and a defective perspiratory mechanism, and burn injuries.
