We Are Creatures of FeelingSubmitted by ttcoupe Fri, 19 Dec 2008
We are creatures of feeling. We are emotionally based creatures where feelings equate to action, advertisers know this. They sell us cigarettes with young, healthy, white smiling models. You don’t like music unless it moves you in some way. If the song makes you happy, horny, sad, or excited you’ll like it and buy it. Decisions in choosing spouses and friends are based on how they make you feel. If a film moves you emotionally you’ll tell all of your friends.
In the womb the mind comes online. The inner mind starts to record feelings and words even though these words will not be interpreted for many years. We are born. At birth the slate is clean. The canvas of life is a blank white page to be written on. The child is introduced to this new world where programs begin. The child is powerless against the bigger creatures - they know all. They are always right. They must be respected. Of course this isn’t true by any stretch of the imagination but the child doesn’t know that! With the best upbringing and the most loving parents the child like mind will perceive the negative and mislearn information. So many firsts… “I hear raised voices.” The first inkling of loneliness. “What did I do to make you do that to me?” Standing in front of the class as the teacher and students laugh at me. “I can’t do anything right, I’m not as good as everyone else.” The guilty finger of blame pointed squarely at ones self. This is the child like mind. This is where we start in life. This is where we learn to kick ourselves. This is where we learn to stifle our emotions because they are bad. This is where I learned to comfort myself with so many life defeating patterns and in some cases add damnation and sin on top of all of this because of my shortcomings. Enough time passes with supporting events and the negative emotions grow. They magnify in the part of my mind which is hidden from us. Building and building until they are controlling my behavior, I try in vain to figure out my problems. I prey for mercy. “Why is this happening to me?” “I don’t deserve this!” “I just can’t break out of this funk.” “Why am I lonely when everyone else has someone?” Feelings build into patterns which stem from a point of origin. ISEs begin usually from the most trivial events. Add to these the misguided behavior of adults to their children and disaster occurs such as in obesity, depression, fear, loneliness, and pain. I can’t sleep. Looking back over my life I see the mistakes I’ve made, how could I have been so stupid? I’m such a dummy! All of these difficult people, the terrible situations I’ve found myself in. All of which I am, all of which I have learned and mislearned. Mistakes, terrible people, people making me feel bad about me. Emotional and physical problems - I need some relief! I’ve got the answer, I’m sold... I’ll take a pill! I’ll ask my doctor for the chemical that will wash this away. That didn’t work, yikes… what do I do now?
