Be Careful When Using Lice Home Remedies From the Web

Submitted by afranks

Trying to find reliable lice home remedies information on the Internet can be very frustrating. There are many options from prescription shampoos to wild ideas like coating hair in peanut butter! As we've been working to control parasitical problems for centuries, it simply makes sense that there are many remedies based on folklore and what people had on hand over the years. You can feel confident however that you can attack and win this ongoing battle with a head louse infestation if only because it's so common for so many of us to deal with. There are reports and postings all over the web with methods and remedies used by consumers that some consider a home remedy or a solution to an infestation outbreak. Well meaning people will attempt to claim some of the craziest things that worked for them while more established products did not. In many of these cases, the problem is that consumers didn't follow the directions closely as to amount of product to use or re-treatment recommendations or even making the effort to remove all potential re-infestation areas like washing bed linens.

Dealing with louse however isn't as simple as taking a pill. Any type of head louse treatment requires that you take the initiative and do the work necessary to get rid of the bugs. Like it or not, even prescription medicines from the doctor rely on you to deal with the infestation by following the directions for a full headlice treatment program

Here's a Home Cure and a cleaning opportunity to find the bugs where they live. Be aware that the home cure is one of the many found on the Internet and may not be effective in dealing with the problem. It's offered as an example of some of the ideas that are claimed to work.
Home Cure Number 1: Peanut Butter

No, this isn't a joke. People have claimed that using peanut butter in your hair will kill the headlice. Interestingly enough, this is the same basic idea where olive oil etc. are used to smother the bugs. Once again, the problem is that peanut butter does NOT kill the bugs but may immobilize them for easier removal. Assuming you can deal with the mess.

Using so called cures such as this also usually requires that the food product be left in you hair overnight. While lice home remedies such as these may be considered natural, the fact that they usually require such a long treatment time is a problem especially for small children. Not only do they have bugs in their hair but now have food AND are wrapped in plastic or wearing a plastic shower cap! It's to much for even many adults to bear.
Home Cure Idea Number 2: Disinfect Combs - Brushes and All Hair care Tools

One method that seems to work great is to disinfect all your hair care and adornment things with alcohol or other strong disinfectant. Although you cannot use such strong chemicals on your head and scalp, they are very effective to kill off anything living on personal items. If you consider that hair care items are a major suspect in contracting and spreading these pests, you will want to seriously deal with the possibility of lice waiting around on your brush to cause more problems. This is one method that you basically have to do if you want the lice to be gone forever rather than coming back again. All lice home remedies no matter the product cannot completely eliminate re-infestation. This is why it's critical for you to focus not only on the bugs you see but take preventative measures by thoroughly cleaning things that can increase the risk of getting the problem back.

A Good Clean Up TIP

You can increase the chance of completely removing all traces of the bugs no matter if you use commercial over the counter insecticide products, drug store shampoo, insecticide based store shampoo, prescription shampoos or a milder and safer natural solution as long as you go the extra step and do a full comb out with a specialized nit comb.

Although combing nits is tedious work, especially on someone with long hair, the fact remains that this is the single best way to be certain that all head louse have been removed. Any of the lice home remedies that have been shown to be effective usually will recommend this extra step.

The lice home remedies work better at least emotionally when you know and can see that the infestation is completely gone. There would be less chance of missing any parasites and you could end up with a much easier time to rid yourself of the problem bugs. Wouldn't you sleep much easier knowing that your home remedy or cure actually did get rid of the infestation?
