Cradle Cap: How Safe Are the Homely Remedies!

Submitted by addamdevin

Use of oil is one important remedy prescribed for treating cradle cap. The method is to apply oils, vegetable or chemical, on the affected area and leave for a few hours. Then the scales should be removed with something soft. The risk lies in the fact that unless something really soft is used, the area may get further affected. In the process of removing the scales, the affected area will be disturbed unless the task is carried out with utmost care.

Like this method, the other kind of homely remedies prescribed for cradle cap are also somehow risky. The case of shampoo can be taken as an example. What is suggested is that mild shampoo should be mixed with water in a good proportion and applied to wash the affected area. In this way, the area covered by the scales will remain clean. But the fact is that almost all the shampoos, even the mild ones made for babies contain detergents.

Now, it cannot be said for sure which all detergents are harmful for cradle cap. It may also not be possible to find out whether the detergents contained in the shampoo are harmless or not. Thus, using the shampoo for washing the skin condition without knowing this may become risky. Instead of curing the disease, this may worsen it. With the other kind of remedies, there may be some or the other risk involved.

So, to be in safer side and to avoid the risk of the side effects involved in the process of treating cradle cap with homely remedies, it is better to use the commercial lotions made especially for the purpose of managing the skin condition. There are a number of companies that make lotions for this kind of skin disease. By purchasing any lotion from a reputed brand, cradle cap can be easily managed.
