Cradle Cap: Use Commercial Lotions, Rose above Risk

Submitted by addamdevin

Though very easy to afford and use, the homely remedies suggested for treating cradle cap, the crusty, scaly greasy skin condition, sometimes become risky. For example, when you use oils to keep the disease under control, you take a rather serious risk. As prescribed, oils of any type, vegetable or chemical is to be used on the affected area and then left for a few hours.

Then, when the scales on the cradle cap affected area become enough oily, they are to be brushed away something very soft. Here lies the problem; how soft a very soft thing can be! One may use brush, tooth brush or other such kind of things to brush off the scales. But the scales, after being soaked in oils for long hours are bound to become a little sticky. So, it is obvious that they should be removed with some force.

Now, when these are brushed away rather forcefully, there is no guarantee that the condition of the affected area will not worsen. It is true that cradle cap is not infectious nor it is not caused by infection. Yet, when the affected area will be disturbed, it will have every possibility of getting bad to worse, leave alone the pain caused to the baby while brushing away the scales. And this should have to be done again and again.

Same kind of risk is involved in the other homely remedies used to manage cradle cap properly. The use of shampoo is a very popular way of treating the skin condition. A certain amount of shampoo is mixed with water and used to wash the affected area. The risk here is that shampoo, even the mild ones meant for babies contain detergents, something not good for the skin condition. Hence, it is the safest way to use the commercial lotions that are made especially for managing the disease.
