Epilation by Laser

Submitted by SterreLauridsen

Hair removal is the practice of removing hair from areas where the client wants it to disappear. There are currently two kinds of hair removal methods that dermatologists use today. These are Depilation and Epilation.

*Depilation is a method which affects the part of the hair above the surface of the skin. One common form of depilation is shaving. Apart from in-house methods of depilation, other methods such as chemical depilatories are accomplished in an office. Chemical depilatories work by breaking the disulfide bonds that link the protein chains that give hair its strength, making the hair disintegrate.

*Epilation is another method which removes all of the hair, including the part below the skin, which offers longer duration before growth of hair. Common in-house methods of epilation involve plucking by use of tweezers. Other forms of epilation involve non-invasive procedures such as waxing, sugaring, epilation devices, lasers, threading, intense pulsed light or electrology. Waxing is commonly the most popular practice for cosmetology. However, the pain that customers will experience makes some tend to use other methods of epilation, such as the use of lasers.

Laser Hair Removal

According to laser hair removal montclair specialists, epilation by use of lasers have been around for about 20 years before it became commercially available in the mid 1990s. Because of the efficiency of laser hair removal, the dermatology community now generally accepts the practice which is widely available throughout world.

How is it Done?

The primary principle behind laser hair removal is selective photothermolysis (SPTL). Lasers can cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter, (melanin), in the area that causes hair growth, (the follicle), while not heating the rest of the skin. According to professional laser hair removal montclair, melanin is considered the primary chromophore for all hair removal lasers currently on the market. Melanin occurs naturally in the skin (it gives skin and hair its color). There are two types of melanin in hair: eumelanin (which gives hair brown or black color) and pheomelanin (which gives hair blonde or red color). Because of the selective absorption of photons of laser light, only black or brown hair can be removed.

Both men and women seek laser hair removal services to have superfluous or unwanted hair removed. Hair removal is commonly done on the following areas: lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, cleavage, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes. According to laser hair removal montclair specialists, laser works best with dark coarse hair. Light skin on dark hair is an ideal combination, but new lasers are now able to target dark black hair even in patients with dark skin.
