Flower fragrances that are used in perfume

Submitted by NishaSabbik

Flowering plants produce volatile chemicals that evaporate into the air and produce their fragrance. Flower gives lot of fragrance to the perfume. Flowers like rose, jasmine, violets, orange flower, Ylang Ylang, Plumerias, chamomile, chocolate flower, clary sage, lavender, Magnolia, Moonflower, Nicotiana, Rosemary, Stock Flower, Sweet pea and wallflower give fragrance to the perfume.

Rose is also known as queen of flowers. Damask rose is most widely grown for perfumery. Rose has two main species that are used in perfume like the Rosa centifolia and Rosa damascene. Jasmine flowers are beautiful for all the senses. The flower oil extracted from these two species jasminum officinale and grandiforum are used in high grade perfumes. Jasmine flowers are picked at night. They are also processed and refined as soon as possible, to preserve quality. Jasmine is highly demanding, as it is found in more than three quarters of the perfumes manufactured today. Lily of the valley, frangipani and freesia are also flowers used in floral scented perfumes. Lily has some main categories: Longiflorum have a strong, sweet fragrance and feature large, funnel shaped flowers that are normally white. Asiatic hybrids are less fragrant. Oriental hybrids are larger flowers and have stronger fragrance. Orange flower is generally used all over the world because of its fragrance. Orange flower oil is also named as neroli. Orange flower is utilized in poppy based scents, cedar scents, and freesia fragrances.

Ylang Ylang flowers are the most exotic of the common ingredients in perfumes. The best ylang-ylang flowers are harvested only after the buds have opened for a couple of weeks, and then immediately processed, like jasmine. Lavender is used for multiple purposes ranging from culinary to medicinal uses. Dutch lavender scent contains a hint of spice and camphor in addition to the lavender scent. Spike lavender is very fragrant and one of the lavenders commonly used for perfume. Plumeria, also known as frangipani, is a large flowering shrub or tree that is thought to have originated in Mexico or Central America. Plumeria flowers are large, and five inches in diameter. They are frequently used in the Hawaiian lei because of their desirable size, and also because of their exceptional fragrance. The fragrance is described as very sweet and stronger at night.

English gardeners call sweet peas the queen of annuals. These charming annuals are unique among garden flowers with their vivid colors, fragrance, and length of bloom in the garden. There is a great deal of variation in the fragrance and intensity of smell in sweet peas. Since the odor that our noses detect is from a complex combination of volatile chemicals produced within the flowers, the strength of fragrance of a sweet pea variety can change due to a number of factors such as rain, high temperatures, time of day and the age of the flower. Stock flower is a low-branching annual herb. Stock flower is also referred to as Virginia stock flower. Stock flowers come in a profusion of fragrant loose racemes. Stock flowers are white, pink, red, or lilac in color.
