Application of foundation is not as hard as you think. The hardest part about applying foundation is choosing a foundation that is right for you. Most companies have a wide selection of foundation colors ranging from fair to ebony. Once you've chosen a foundation, the hard part is over. To do this, test foundations along your jaw line. You will know the best color because it will disappear into your skin and match completely. The first makeup essential that is applied to your face is the foundation. Its purpose is implied in the name. Foundation prepares your face for the rest of the makeup. It is like preparing a canvas before you paint. The rest of the makeup looks better when foundation is applied.

A woman has the option of swirling the mineral makeup brush in the foundation while it is in the cap or she can dip the Kabuki brush directly into the product container. For smooth and even coverage though, it is important that the mineral powders are recessed deep into the bristles of the brush, and that any excess minerals are shaken off. The mineral makeup foundation is applied to the largest areas of the face and neck, and then it is followed by blusher, concealed, eye shadow and finally lip color. Typically, the color of your neck will be a tad lighter than your face. Invest in a fresh pack of cosmetic sponges before you head home. Wash your face clean of all debris and prep your sponge with a dime-sized amount of the foundation you chose. Starting on the bridge of your nose, sweep the sponge downward, swooping down the sides of your nose past your nostrils.

Most beauty experts say that a proper base is, quite literally, the foundation for a well-done makeup job. Without foundation, skin blemishes and irregularities can distract from your overall look. Furthermore, it's virtually impossible to achieve a pulled-together, polished look with a proper base layer of foundation. Smooth it out with a sponge. This step is very important. Be sure to blend, blend and blend. Most women make the mistake of forgetting to apply under the cheek which can give you a masked look. Unnatural looking streaks are often seen close to the ears, mouth, jaw line, temples and sides of the nose when blending is not properly done.

Selecting the right color of foundation is only half the battle. In order to get the best application possible, you've got to ensure that you're choosing an appropriate formula, as well. Consider factors like the level of coverage, the weight of the formula, and the type of skin it's designed for before you decide on a specific foundation. Some women also like to make seasonal adjustments in their foundation formula, using lighter mixtures in the warmer months and then turning to heavier products with better coverage in the winter.
