Looking for a hairstyle to suit every occasion this summer? Want to know what's in fashion and how to look radiant despite Britain's rising climate? Marcus from Peter Marcus www.petermarcus.co.uk one of the leading hairdressers in Manchester has all the tips to make sure your hair is perfect for summer 2009.

First, how to maintain your hairs healthy glow and keep it safe. Summer can have a brutal effect on your hair; the hot temperature damages its cuticles leaving it dry, frizzy, wiry and sometimes with split ends. Exposure to salt and chlorine can be extremely damaging if not washed immediately after visiting the beach or the pool. There are many ways to protect your hair from this sort of damage, you can start by using conditioner every time you wash or for added shine leave conditioner in overnight, if you are going into a pool, to protect your hair from chlorine apply conditioner to your hair before you go in. There are many hair products that contain UV protection for example, the Charles Worthington Takeaways sun-shine shampoo and conditioner and shampoo which you can purchase from boots at £1.75, another cheaper and easier way to protect your hair is wearing a hat if you are spending long periods of time in the sun.

There are a wide range of styles around this summer, mainly focusing on the vintage look; they are wild and wacky with a real thirst for standing out.

Taking Vogue by storm is the flashback of 30's and 40's Hollywood Glamour look, with the short sleek bob, wavy curls resembling Marilyn Monroe and groovy pin up's, you can jazz up this look with elegant accessories like clips or hair bands for an evening look.

For the younger generation who missed out on the 80's the first time round, they are in luck, the 80's era in back, in clothes, make up and best of all hair styles. The new hairstyles have a major 80's feel and have improved with improvements on its more modern shapes and colours. You can create this vintage look with first a good volume control conditioner, back combing and plenty of hair spray.

This time round the Mohawk has become the fashion for not only men but also women; it is stretching it's victims to all walks of life and lengths of hair, and shaven patches on each side of your head is no longer needed. This look is great for weekend outings and is not only easily taken out but easily put up. You can create this look with just a simple quiff to an extreme be-hive. For men or for women who want this as a permanent style, get your hairdresser to trim the sides.

Another look that is big this summer is the varied textures. This is where you engage straight lines with kinks and curls adding contrast, volumised hair with a rougher texture next to smooth silky sections of the hair creates impact and comparison. There are many ways to create this trend, adding small braids to straight or curly hair, striking, un-blended layers creating an angular look to the hair style.

And last but not least, curls. There are many kinds of curls in this summer, there are the loose voluptuous, slightly flattened towards the end with the curl beginning half way down, tight, spiral curls and Again the old Hollywood inspired smooth fingered waves and pin curls. If you have naturally wavy/curly hair it can be maintained with either styling mouse or hair spray.
