Permanent Methods to Hair Removal

Submitted by SterreLauridsen

Current trends of hair removal are divided into two parts, depilation and epilation. Depilation is a method in which hair are removed only above the skin which commonly includes shaving. One popular form depilation is the use of chemical depilatories, which work by breaking the disulfide bonds that link the protein chains that give hair its strength, making the hair disintegrate. Contrary to depilation is epilation which involves the removal of the entire hair, including the part below the skin. One common method for this is plucking through the use of tweezers. Epilation is said to be longer lasting than depilation, though not permanent.

But there are several epilation methods considered by many as a permanent way to lose unwanted hair. These methods include:

· Electrolysis (electrology)

· Laser

· Intense Pulsed Light

Electrology Method

The practitioner slides a solid hair-thin metal probe into each hair follicle. Proper insertion does not puncture the skin. Electricity is delivered to the follicle through the probe, which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs, either through the formation of caustic lye (galvanic method), overheating (thermolysis method), or both (blend method). Electrolysis as a profession faced new competition in the 1990s after laser hair reduction was developed and promoted as a quicker and easier way to remove hair permanently.
Laser Method

According to the laser hair removal rancho cucamonga center, the efficacy of laser hair removal is now generally accepted in the dermatology community, and laser hair removal is widely practiced. Many reviews of laser hair removal methods, safety, and efficacy have been published in dermatology literatures.

· The mechanism

· First, the lasers used by laser hair removal rancho cucamonga centers will cause localized damage by selectively heating dark target matter (melanin), in the area that causes hair growth (the follicle).

· This is done while not heating the rest of the skin.

· Second, the light is absorbed by dark objects, so laser energy can be absorbed by dark material in the skin but with much more speed and intensity.

· This dark target matter, or chromophore, can be naturally-occurring or artificially introduced.

Laser hair removal done by laser hair removal rancho cucamonga centers usually involves the lip, chin, ear lobe, shoulders, back, underarm, abdomen, buttocks, pubic area, bikini lines, thighs, face, neck, cleavage, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes.

Intense Pulsed Light Method

This involves the use of a specially constructed xenon flash lamp and focusing optics. The Intense Pulsed Light hair removal process has become very popular due to its cheaper and faster procedure compared to laser hair removal. The comparison of effectiveness between Intense Pulsed Light and Laser Epilation is debated by scientists, equipment manufacturers and practitioners, but results are generally accepted to be roughly equivalent. It is also used for the treatment of the skin in a process known as photorejuvenation.
