Belching and Gas Home Remedies

Submitted by rdmize111

Belching is something which can be suffered by everyone. It is considered to be a compliment after a good meal in some parts of the world.

It is something that comes naturally. Studies have shown that healthy youngsters belch on average 11 times in 20 hours, excluding mealtimes. Belching happens because of the air that is swallowed whilst eating and drinking, which adds to the gas which is already in the stomach.

Soft drinks and beer are almost guaranteed to cause problems. However, saliva contains tiny air bubbles which travel to the stomach every time we swallow.

It is proven that you swallow 5 ounces of air every time you swallow. Therefore, if you are of a nervous disposition, then swallowing can be one of your reflexes. You probably don’t notice it yourself, but ask friends and family to inform you if they see you swallowing more than usual.

There are various belching home remedies available:

Avoid carbonated drinks if possible, as the gas content will cause you to belch.

Eat slowly and chew your food well before swallowing.

Do not chew gum.

Avoid drinking from cans or bottles, use a glass on all occasions, and avoid using a straw.

Avoid high air contents food and drinks, such as beer, ice cream, soufflés, omelets, whipped cream

Avoid overeating and limit high fat content foods to reduce the symptoms of gas.

Avoid gas producing foods, such as beans, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, onions, bananas, apricots, pretzels etc.

Chewing on 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds after each meal can reduce the symptoms of belching.

Mixing a pinch of Asafoetida in warm water and drinking can relieve gas.

By drinking a mixture of ½ teaspoon of dry ginger powder, a pinch of asafoetida and rock salt and a cupful of warm water, you can prevent belching.

Before going to bed, drink 2 teaspoons of brandy mixed with warm water to provide the relief of gas.

Chew on fresh ginger slices which have been soaked in lime juice after every meal.

After each meal, mix a drop of dill oil with a teaspoon of honey and take immediately after eating.

Make a solution of 1 teaspoon of pepper, 1 teaspoon of dry ginger and 1 teaspoon of green cardamom seeds. Mix half a teaspoon of this mixture with water and drink one glass of the solution one hour after every meal.

Drink a cup of water which has a pinch of baking powder and lemon juice added.

To receive quick relief from belching, chew a spoonful of celery seeds.

Drinking Chamomile tea helps to improve the digestive system, by expelling trapped gas in the digestive tract.
