$9M Settlement Reached in Mesothelioma Cancer Cases

Late last month, a New York City jury awarded $9 million to mesothelioma cancer victims and their wives for their wrongful asbestos exposure.

The cases are being viewed as ground-breaking mesothelioma cancer cases since the verdicts were handed down against companies that had never been proven guilty in the history of asbestos cancer cases in New York thus far.

Rosenberg Mesothelioma Cancer Case

Joel and Sharon Rosenberg filed their suit against Alpha Wire Company claiming that Joel was exposed to asbestos during his time working as an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW).

Rosenberg began working as an electrician as a teenager and developed mesothelioma cancer due to his exposure to asbestos at various worksites including the Arthur Kill Powerhouse in Staten Island and the Vista Hotel in Manhattan’s Financial District.

The couple filed the suit against the manufacturer of asbestos-containing power cables that Rosenberg came into contact with daily.

Rosenberg was awarded $3 million for his pain and suffering and his wife was given $1 million for the loss of services and society.

The Casale Mesothelioma Cancer Case

Joseph and Dolores Casale filed a suit due to the asbestos exposure that Joseph experienced during his time as a steam fitter.

Joseph began his work as a teenager and worked in several locations across New York City, including the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Casale was recently diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer and claimed the illness was due to the asbestos he was being unknowingly being exposed to at work.

The jury awarded the couple $5 million for their pain and suffering.
