Tom had surgery in which they removed a section of his colon and his surgeon informed him afterwards that he had got it all. What Tom wasn't told was they had got all the cancer they could see but because individual cancer cells are only visible through a microscope there were possibly thousands of rogue cells left behind. He also wasn't told the surgical removal of cancer doesn't address the reasons why the cancer first grew so it won't stop it growing again in the future or shifting to another location.

Tom asked about a change in diet, could it help but was told he needn't make any as they didn't think what he had eaten had anything to do with his cancer. Nobody knew to tell him, the most powerful weapon to overcome any cancer is the food you choose to eat everyday. He also should have been told the connection between refined sugar and cancer. It had been discovered back in 19:31 that cancer cells survive by a process of fermentation and the food item that fuels this process is sugar. Eating refined sugar when you have cancer is like pouring gasoline onto a smouldering fire, it accelerates its growth.

He asked about exercise and once again got a negative response. We need exercise everyday to keep our immune system healthy. All cancers are a disease of a weak immune system which has been weakened by the way we live, especially with our sedentary lifestyle. Our immune system needs muscular activity to keep it working efficiently because it doesn't have a pump like the heart. So with a sluggish immune system it's not going to remove any cancer cells as they reappear again in the future.

There are many other important pieces of information my friend needed to know to aid his recovery and it's a sad fact that our medical professionals who are in charge of our health and healing don't know these facts. Amygdalin - The Real Natural Product

Apricot pits and many other kinds of seeds contain a natural product that is called amygdalin, which is often used synonymously with laetrile. They are not the same.

Amygdalin consists of the following parts: a benzene ring, a nitrile (cyano) group, and two molecules of glucose together in a side chain. Although these parts can be put together in several ways, only one particular combination is called amygdalin. Chemist are very picky that way.

Laetrile - The Semisynthetic Product

Laetrile consists of the following parts: a benzene ring, a nitrile (cyano) group, and one molecule of glucuronic acid as a side group. The question about what this molecule is can be resolved by simply knowing the origin of the word laetrile. It comes from the detailed name of the molecule, which is laevomandelonitrile.

Why Is This Important?

The body of research on laetrile as a natural cancer cure is littered with confusion about which molecule was used in any one patient group or lab animal experiment. To make matters worse, early researchers campaigned to get amygdalin or laetrile - it is not clear which - approved as a vitamin, B-17.

Vitamin B-17 is now available commercially, although it is almost certainly amygdalin most of the time. Company representatives do not generally know enough about the subject to provide clarity on their own vitamin B-17 products.

Do Laetrile and Amygdalin Have the Same Anticancer Activity?

That is the key question. It can only be answered theoretically, based on the supposed mechanism of action of laetrile. It goes like this:

Enzymes in tumors cleave the glucuronic acid group off of the intact laetrile molecule. The remaining parts then disintegrate spontaneously into two pieces: a molecule of cyanide and a molecule of benzaldehyde. Supposedly, once the cyanide molecule is released inside the tumor, it goes about killing the cancer cells.

Amygdalin breaks apart the same way, after enzymes in the tumor cleave off the glucose side chain. According to this behavior, amygdalin should have the same mechanism of action against cancer as laetrile does.

Enough Chemistry - What is the Bottom Line for Treating Cancer?

Since laetrile is chemically modified from amyglalin, it may occur as a 50-50 mixture of active and inactive forms. For this reason, a stable concentration of amygdalin should provide the best chance for full anticancer activity.

The key word here is stable. If you have a product that is supposed to be vitamin B-17, or amygdalin, or laetrile, it may be giving off an odor of cyanide (like the odor of bitter almonds or of ground up apple seeds). The stronger the odor, the more of the active ingredient it has lost.

Are Laetrile/Amygdalin Valuable a Cancer Treatment?

More than 80 years of research, from several labs and clinics around the world, shows strong support for a positive answer to this question. Another indication is that this treatment, especially in combination with other treatments, became so good that it was made illegal and chased out of the U.S.

The closest laetrile/amygdalin-based treatment clinics have been in Mexican border towns, especially in Tijuana. Unfortunately, legal problems arising because of certain sections of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) have led to closures of some of these cancer clinics.

Natural cancer cures are still as good as they always have been. It is just that getting access to them has become more of a challenge in recent years.

While our medical professionals are very good at diagnosing and monitoring cancer the response from their mainstream treatments is very poor. Any methods that slow down advanced prostate cancer usually have a lot of side effects that can sometimes be more debilitating than the prostate cancer itself. Older individuals usually choose not to treat their advanced prostate cancer because of these side effects.

Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer:

The male hormone testosterone stimulates the prostate cancer growth. Reducing testosterone levels is usually the first form of treatment if the prostate cancer has spread to other parts of the body. In an effort to reduce testosterone levels in the body permanently doctors may suggest removing the testicles. This procedure is called an orchiectomy. Patients who receive this surgery may choose get prosthetics inserted that have the same shape and size of the testicles.

Physical exam and history: An exam of the body to check general signs of health, including checking for signs of disease, such as lumps or swelling in the neck, voice box, and lymph nodes, and anything else that seems unusual. A history of the patient's health habits and past illnesses and treatments will also be taken.

Laryngoscopy: A procedure in which the doctor checks the larynx (voice box) with a mirror or with a laryngoscope. A laryngoscope is a thin, tube-like instrument with a light and a lens for viewing. A thyroid tumor may press on vocal cords. The laryngoscopy is done to see if the vocal cords are moving normally.

Blood hormone studies: A procedure in which a blood sample is checked to measure the amounts of certain hormones released into the blood by organs and tissues in the body. An unusual (higher or lower than normal) amount of a substance can be a sign of disease in the organ or tissue that makes it. The blood may be checked for abnormal levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH is made by the pituitary gland in the brain. It stimulates the release of thyroid hormone and controls how fast follicular thyroid cells grow. The blood may also be checked for high levels of the hormone calcitonin which may necessitate parotid gland surgery depending on several factors.

Blood chemistry studies: A procedure in which a blood sample is checked to measure the amounts of certain substances, such as calcium, released into the blood by organs and tissues in the body. An unusual (higher or lower than normal) amount of a substance can be a sign of disease in the organ or tissue that makes it.

Radioactive iodine scan (RAI scan): A procedure to find areas in the body where thyroid cancer cells may be dividing quickly. Radioactive iodine (RAI) is used because only thyroid cells take up iodine. A very small amount of RAI is swallowed, travels through the blood, and collects in thyroid tissue and thyroid cancer cells anywhere in the body. Abnormal thyroid cells take up less iodine than normal thyroid tissue. Areas that do not absorb the iodine normally (cold spots) show up lighter in the picture made by the scan. Cold spots can be either benign (not cancer) or malignant, so a biopsy is done to find out if they are salivary gland cancer or other type of cancer.

Ultrasound exam: A procedure in which high-energy sound waves (ultrasound) are bounced off internal tissues or organs and make echoes. The echoes form a picture of body tissues called a sonogram. The picture can be printed to be looked at later. This procedure can show the size of a thyroid tumor and whether it is solid or a fluid -filled cyst. Ultrasound may be used to guide a fine-needle aspiration biopsy.

CT scan (CAT scan): A procedure that makes a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body, taken from different angles. The pictures are made by a computer linked to an x-ray machine. A dye may be injected into a vein or swallowed to help the organs or tissues show up more clearly. This procedure is also called computed tomography, computerized tomography, or computerized axial tomography.

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging): A procedure that uses a magnet, radio waves, and a computer to make a series of detailed pictures of areas inside the body. This procedure is also called nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI).

PET scan (positron emission tomography scan): A procedure to find malignant tumor cells in the body. A Los Angeles oncologist injects a small amount of radioactive glucose (sugar) into a vein. The PET scanner rotates around the body and makes a picture of where glucose is being used in the body. Malignant tumor cells show up brighter in the picture because they are more active and take up more glucose than normal cells do.

Fine-needle aspiration biopsy of the thyroid: The removal of thyroid tissue using a thin needle. The needle is inserted through the skin into the thyroid. Several tissue samples are removed from different parts of the thyroid. A pathologist views the tissue samples under a microscope to look for cancer cells. Because the type of thyroid cancer can be hard to diagnose, patients should ask to have biopsy samples checked by a pathologist who has experience diagnosing thyroid cancer.

Surgical biopsy: The removal of the thyroid nodule or one lobe of the thyroid during surgery so the cells and tissues can be viewed under a microscope by a pathologist to check for signs of cancer. Have you ever wondered why there is so much colon cancer around today? A hundred years ago it was almost unheard of; it was rare, so why not look at what has changed over those hundred years that is causing the problem. There are many useful changes one can make and they are removing the known causes and with the amazing self-healing powers of our immune system, which we were born with and are with us throughout life, the body can heal and can become cancer free.

All cancers including colon cancer have 4 main causes and they are our wrong food choices, the toxic chemicals we encounter everyday, our sedentary lifestyle or our lack of exercise and lastly emotional stress or not letting go of a problem we may have. Let's look at each one of these.

The natural foods for the human body are freshly grown fruit and vegetables, whole grains and nuts. Our diets have changed vastly over the last hundred years and now days we eat mainly processed foods, including lots of meat and dairy products. All processed foods are nutritionally dead food because they are old and there is proof to that. Also most of them contain a high proportion of fat, salt or refined sugar and all those items are known contributors to all cancers. Most importantly, there is a direct relationship between colon cancer and the consumption of meat because of its lack of fibre, another fact that is well known. Also cooking meat over a high temperature produces a carcinogenic substance called "heterocyclic amines" or HCAs. Cooking on barbeques or hot frypans are examples of that.

The chemicals we use everyday that are mostly from the petro-chemicals industry are all affecting our immune system. Probably the worst ones are the personal care products that we apply directly to our skin and because of its porous nature, are absorbed into our bloodstream. Not all chemicals are checked for toxicity and those that are checked, are only checked for short term effects like skin allergies, not long term problems like cancer.

Thanks to the ubiquitous motor car and other labour saving devices we don't get the exercise we use to. The television set is also partly responsible as it forms a big part of our entertainment today. Exercise is very important because our built in repair system which is the immune system which everybody has, needs muscular activity for it to function properly.

Lastly stress can have a major impact on the human body which can bring on any cancers, not just colon cancer. My suggestion is to seek professional help if you have had a major trauma like the loss of a loved one or a personal or business crisis.

Colon cancer does not have a single cause but many contributing factors. That's why not all big meat eaters get colon cancer. By identifying and removing many of the causes the human body can heal itself naturally and permanently.

You can only make an informed decision on your treatment if you have the information on the subject to make those decisions. The more you choose to get involved, the greater a difference you will make to the outcome of your disease.
