Asbestos Removal Pittsburgh

Submitted by justice
Mon, 23 Mar 2009

A $3.9 million contract was recently awarded to Project Development Inc., by the Eerie Canal Harbor Development Corp.

The money will go towards the asbestos removal from Memorial Auditorium in Buffalo, N.Y.

Asbestos Removal Determines Project Start Date

According to city officials, the asbestos removal from the auditorium is essential in the facility’s redevelopment, which will turn into the $275 million Canal Side project that’s been in the works.

Work on the project is set to begin in early February and continue through November.

However, reports claim that harbor development officials have built contingency funds that will enable Project Development to speed up the asbestos removal process so demolition can start sometime in October.

“We can’t sign the lease until it is a shovel-ready site,” explains Jordan Levy, development corporation chairmen for Project Development. “Until then we are just going to have to take people at their word.”

Asbestos Cancer Concerns

Asbestos is a harmful substance that was banned for use in products in the 1970’s.

However, many older buildings, homes and schools in the U.S. contain asbestos, which has put many at risk for exposure to the carcinogen ilnesses.

The inhalation, ingestion and general asbestos exposure has been proven to put people at risk illnesses such as lung cancer, asbestosis, and mesothelioma cancer.
