Constipation Causes and SymptomsSubmitted by jasminesmith Fri, 19 Jun 2009
Constipation is a fairly common problem for most people but its symptoms and the discomfort that comes along with it make it a horrible experience for most. Fortunately, it is easy enough to resolve and easy enough to avoid. Here are some simple tips to follow to prevent future bouts of constipation and maintaining regular, healthy bowel movements.
The number of bowel movements generally decreases with age. Majority adults have bowel movements between three and 21 times per week, and this is considered normal. The best habit is one bowel movement a day, but most people are irregular and do not have bowel movements every day or the same number of bowel movements each day. Constipation is not a pleasant feeling and sometimes linked with headache and lack of energy. Constipation affects almost each person at one time or another. Constipation is pretty common, and dissimilar things can cause it. Constipation can be the reduction of the normal volume of feces voided, the complete absence of discharge or sticky discharge that the person has difficulty in passing out. In all cases, there is Ayurvedic treatment. Constipation is not a very dangerous ailment if treated properly in time. But if let be, then constipation can become chronic. Especially in elderly people, constipation for a prolonged period can be fatal. One of the most common causes of constipation, and one of the easiest to remedy, is your diet. Specifically, if you're not getting enough fiber in your diet, you stand a greater chance of experiencing constipation. The colon is where water is extracted from waste matter before the waste matter is eliminated from your body. If too much water is extracted, the waste matter may become very hard and difficult to pass, causing constipation. Fiber helps to remedy this problem by retaining water and adding bulk. Uncommonness, irregularity in removal of hard fecal matter. The most ordinary symptoms of constipation are infrequency, irregularity or obscurity in elimination of the hard fecal matter. The other signs include a coated tongue, foul breath, loss of appetite, headache, giddiness, dark circles under the eyes, depression, nausea, pimples on the face, ulcer in the mouth, constant fullness in the abdomen, diarrhea alternating with constipation, varicose veins, pain in the lumbar region, acidity, heart burn, and insomnia Complications of Constipation Difficulties of constipation include hemorrhoids (which are caused by straining to have a bowel movement) and anal fissures (which are tears in the skin around the anus). Causes Constipation occurs when the large intestine sucks up too much water from the stool to make it dry and hard or the bowel walls cannot contract adequately to pass the stool and waste products along fast enough. A regular exercise is essential for a healthy life. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise. Exercises that focus on the abdominal region are great for helping the body continually perform it's natural tasks - and can help to prevent constipation by keeping the muscles of the large and small intestines working properly. Many times, constipation afflicts the aged and invalids because of poor muscle tone in the intestines due to lack of exercise.
